Prince Andrew has agreed not to use his titles, including Earl of Inverness. Inverness may be symbolically free, but the monarchy still holds all the power. If Inverness can lose a prince, Scotland can lose the monarchy.

A very British absurdity, that you can apparently release a press statement saying you are "no longer using your titles", and simultanously sign it "Prince Andrew." Mr Mountbatten-Windsor would surely do.
