After writing my screenplay for seven days straight without incident, this happened:

Burn the AI Slop movies projects because we can have things like Decorado made by humans. There are thousands of people with good ideas and the talent to make them. Support them.

Doing some hand-drawn animation for myself after a LOOONG break. Rusty, but it comes back. Funny, wanted to do a slow-in, so I instinctively drew a timing chart and it worked! Lots of things are coming back & I’m done w/ a rough pass. Time to tie down. I dunno, just sorta happy and wanted to share.

WORST advice I ever got: “When someone asks you if something is possible, always say yes.” Everything is not always possible & you shouldn’t put it on yourself to make it so. When it’s not, explain what is possible & the cost of making the request happen. Put the decision (and cost) back on them.

I’m JUST starting to get things lined up for Now Go Make A Movie!

I finished a first draft and shared it with some key people yesterday. Today I had a three hour nap.

I don't know who needs to hear this, but you may be a director and you just don't know it yet. Demystify it. Look into it. You don't have to shoot. You don't have to edit. You ASSEMBLE the team. Shoot in one location with a bunch of friends. It doesn't have to cost a fortune.

Watched MISSING (1982, Dir. Costa-Gavras) on TCM yesterday starring Sissy Spacek and Jack Lemmon. Jack Lemmon always delivers and there are a handful of his scenes where my jaw hung open in awe.

Today, I finished a first draft of a screenplay I’ve had in my hands on-and-off for months. PHEWWWW I don’t know if I’m happier that I reached this point or for the fact that I can finally work on some other stuff while this one rests for a bit. I’ve been on a strict creative diet and I’m hungry!

Watched William Friedkin’s To Live and Die in L.A. last night (thanks @kanopy.com!). I always loved that he did the best car chase of the 70s (French Connection), 80s (To Live & Die), and 90s (Ronin). Speaking of the 80s, those were somethin’ else, huh?

Started this Team Deakins ep. and instantly recognized Stefan Nikolov's voice. He took us all over (and above) Chicago, scouting locations for The Christmas Chronicles. A good Location Manager like Stefan not only gets you where you want to see, they're also a good host. Minute 32 sounds like us!

I might just have to trade my Masterclass subscription for this ASC+

The latest Team Deakins podcast was a fantastic listen. HIGHLY recommend. So much food for thought re: camera movement and filmmaking in general. Also, I need to watch more of Roger’s fav films

Couldn’t be happier for this LONG-overdue category’s creation. Stunties will finally get some face-time with the public. Even with the limited amount of stunts I’ve directed, every stunt performer I’ve known is always ready to give it everything for the show. 👊

For the most accurate depiction of Hollywood I’ve seen, I cannot recommend enough Seth Rogan and Evan Goldberg’s series The Studio. I admit I get a little PTSD watching it, but it’s worth the pain. It’s like a film industry boot camp wrapped in a comedy with some of the most incredible cameos ever.

When I finished Angry Birds, our editor and good human Kent Beyda gifted me a physical copy of Blake Edwards’s S.O.B., which I had never heard of. I FINALLY watched it this week and it’s an amazingly entertaining take on making movies w/ an ensemble of some of my favorite actors ever.

Didn’t intend for this to be my first post, but now that Bluesky allows 3-minutes video uploads, a series of videos I have been working on just got a lot more wiggle room. I’m happy.
