Almost all of Puerto Rico has no electricity on New Year’s Eve. The failing grid in Puerto Rico is the single worst infrastructure crisis in the United States. Puerto Rico is a colony of the United States, and its failing grid is a symptom of its second-class status.

Nearly all of Puerto Rico is without power, but that’s nothing new; Puerto Ricans live with that issue all the time.

Currently in PR for the first time in over 20 years, and while this is just an inconvenience for me as a visitor, this is the reality for the people who live here regularly. Horrifying how the US failed to take action all these years to repair infrastructure here following Hurricane Maria.
