Last week, I joined Skills Minister Jacqui Smith at Xcelerate with Edgbaston, a fantastic hub helping young people gain real experience in hospitality. We met Kundai, a Commis Chef, who trained through our Path 2 Apprenticeship programme. By investing in our youth, we're investing in our future.

It’s time to bring the curtain down on old and outdated homes. Citizen housing have started demolition of Spon End, Coventry making way for 261 new affordable homes. It takes all of us, working together, to make sure everyone in the West Midlands gets a warm, safe home.

I’m working with Government and industry to protect our region - starting with the urgent support for our automotive sector announced earlier this week. I’ve commissioned a rapid impact report to drive local policy decisions and to make sure our voice is heard in trade talks.

I visited the WMG Academy for Young Engineers, where they are taking a career-focused approach to education. That means young people aren't just learning, they are preparing themselves for the world of work. Students like Obi-Omar are excelling and have bright futures ahead of them.

Our region is leading the way in battery technology – a visit to Global Nano Network in Coventry proved that! 🔋 They’re creating high-performance batteries while cutting waste and costs. Backing these projects is key to growing our economy and creating high-quality green jobs.

It was great to join @darrenpjones.bsky.social in Birmingham with local business leaders to discuss the important infrastructure projects that we’ll deliver in our region. Doing this at pace and scale will deliver growth and opportunity across the West Midlands.

I visited the site of Kings Heath Station today, where we are on track to complete construction by the end of the year. When the station is complete, it will be the first time this area has had passenger services for 80 years. I can't wait to welcome the trains back.

This week, I held a meeting with West Midlands MPs to discuss how we can deliver the best outcomes for the people of our region. Our focus was clear: Collaboration, partnership and a shared ambition to make the West Midlands an even better place to live, work and invest.

A stronger West Midlands starts with stronger businesses. I know high energy costs are holding firms back. That’s why I’ve secured £15m to help 1300 more businesses cut bills, go greener and invest in their future. Lower costs mean more jobs, a stronger economy, and a cleaner future for everyone.

I’m building 20,000 new social homes in the West Midlands over the next decade to provide homes for people who need them most. With £2 billion to be shared here and across the country, the Government is matching our ambition.

Six months ago, I visited LEVC's Coventry production facility and yesterday I had the chance to see the new L380 electric vehicle in China. The West Midlands has a proud legacy of innovation and companies like LEVC are leading the change to cleaner greener vehicles.

Another impactful week! ✅ Supported Team England ahead of the Kabaddi World Cup. Celebrated the Ramadan Street Market launch. Offered my support to Ukrainian families to remain in our region. Donated 1000 bus passes to the West Midlands Multibank to help those in need.

Our Careers Hub and the BBC are giving students hands-on experience in scriptwriting and filmmaking at Walsall Studio School. A huge thanks to the BBC for working with us to open creative career paths for young talent in our region.

The West Midlands Multibank will make a real difference to many families. It will support 75,000 families in need. I've donated 1,000 monthly bus passes to give a helping hand to those who need it.

The West Midlands has always welcomed those in need. Three years after arriving, Ukrainian families are facing needless uncertainty due to red tape. They’ve built lives, friendships, and futures here - I’ve written to the Home Secretary to urge action.

Last week I met with Ukrainian families who fled the war to live in our region with a promise of safety and security. Their stories were powerful and moving. But they need certainty over their futures.

The COVID-19 pandemic was a testing time for us all. At Wolverhampton bus station today, I met front-line workers who kept essential services running across the West Midlands when we needed them most. Their dedication will never be forgotten. Thank you. 👏

So far this month... I opened the first West Midlands Business Festival ✅ Saw how our Social Housing Decency Fund is improving lives. Secured £16m for investment zones. Met apprentices at BT & Mahirs Experience - showing how our initiatives are creating opportunities!

BT has supported over 16,000 apprentices, more than any other company in the UK. I met data scientists, network engineers and marketers. All developing skills for the future 🧑‍💻 I’m keen to work closely with BT to create more opportunities, ensuring our young people can thrive.

Our region's diversity is a strength, which is why my priorities are for everyone. Policies must support all communities. At the West Midlands Islamophobia Summit, I reaffirmed my commitment to understanding community issues and tackling discrimination.

Another £16 million secured for our investment zones-in total, that's £40 million to prepare key sites for development. This investment zone will create 30,000 high-quality jobs, boosting the West Midlands economy. We are delivering the growth our region needs 📈

After more than two decades lying derelict, the former James Bridge Copper Works site in Walsall is being transformed 🏗️ A £100m regeneration project will turn one of our region’s largest brownfield sites into a thriving business hub for modern manufacturing and logistics.

Over 8.3 million journeys on the West Midlands Metro last year 🚋 The tram is key to my vision for an affordable, reliable, and accessible network. That’s why the Black Country Metro extension was essential - I’ll keep pushing for better transport.

I’m proud to deliver real support for businesses. I launched the region’s first-ever business festival - showcasing opportunities for SMEs to collaborate and grow. In under a year, we’ve backed local businesses with over £10m in grants – real investment and real impact 💷
