My team at TILES @utas.edu.au have been working with our colleagues in Tasmania Police to build a police & first-responder specific trauma-informed message, training & research program

First Board meeting of the Global Law Enforcement and Public Health Association (GLEPHA). Delighted to work with these extraordinary individuals, on behalf of our community of practitioners, scholars, and advocates. New initiatives, two conferences this year (looking forward to Ottawa and Sydney).

Excited about the work that our team is doing on #bail, #police and #police prosecutors. Emma Colvin (CSU) and I have just submitted a draft article on our analysis of the police prosecutors' decision making process to grant or refuse bail to vulnerable people. Very much looking forward to feedback.

Yesterday, a colleague & I submitted a draft chapter that we wrote JUST FOR FUN. How cool is this? It's about finding new communities to sustain well-being, mental health & resilience within and outside the workplace. The chapter is for an upcoming book edited by @rellypops.bsky.social & colleagues

Also, in last weekend's news, I tested positive for COVID for the very first time. Zero 'flu-like' symptom, nothing except for loss of taste and smell (I actually only tested because something I knew was quite flavoursome did not taste like what it should). Really???

Academics often think of ethics as an obstacle. I think of it as a tool to work through the technicalities of fieldwork. Once embraced, it's a fairly straightforward process. Delighted that our PhD student Rosie Martin (@amandalneil.bsky.social) received ethics approval with no request for change.

Chuffed to have presented at University of Tasmania annual hashtag#teaching and hashtag#learning conference, Teaching Matters (sites.google.com/view/teachin...) on the curriculum co-design work we do with our police organisations.

A new scenario-based, evidence-informed, officer-safety training course for UK police led to a 10% reduction in use of force and no increase in injuries to officers. Paper: https://doi.org/10.1080/24751979.2024.2412333

Already working on my #evidencebasedpolicing class for Semester 1 2025 (I have some early enrolments). I am so excited. This is one of my favourite classes to teach. @utas.bsky.social
