As we remember Aberfan, we are reminded that Wales’ coalmining communities still live in fear of another disaster. While Reform are calling for the reopening of Wales’ coalmines, they couldn’t even be bothered to show up for this debate on the safety of our coalmining communities.

Ahead of my debate on coal tip safety today – a day after the 59th anniversary of the Aberfan disaster – we remember the 144 lives lost. No family should go to bed fearing the hillside above them. Westminster must fully fund coal tip safety.

Today, during PMQs I raised the brutal murder of my constituent, Mr O’Leary. I asked Keir Starmer whether he would meet with me to discuss legislation that would ensure that the legal system not only supports grieving families but also recognises the deep harm caused by such acts.
