We once again had Robins nesting on the light in are back yard. There were 3 babies that looked ready to fledge so we setup the camera. This was not the end of the story we were expecting. Hawks need to eat too. At least the other 2 seemed to get away, although that second one did not seem ready.

Happy to have survived one round of playoffs and finished 8th at the Manitoba Pinball Championships. I played very nervously and poorly in both the round of 16 and 8. But I had fun and am happy with my finish.

Off to Winnipeg for the Manitoba Pinball Championships this weekend. Time to continue to work on having fun, not caring about results and trying to eat, rest and otherwise take care of myself when possible.

Every day that I read another article about how AI is changing how industry is writing code, I am more and more happy I retired. I am not anti AI in software development, but I do lean more skeptical. But mostly it reads as you can stop doing the thing you enjoy and focus on the parts you hate.

Devils on the Moon pinball is now officially my favourite playdate game. This is really really impressive on this device. Really smooth and controllable. Shatzing the torches is really fun, and the bang back is money. Pinball + Playdate, what more could I ask for.

I am incredibly annoyed with Spotify this morning. I was listening to The Rhythm of the Saints. Spotify seems to have replaced the versions of songs on the album with the music video audio. Specifically Proof now has a Chevy Chase and Steve Martin sketch intro. This breaks album progression.

I just learned of Dan Simmons' death. I feel it is not getting the attention he deserves. I learned about Hyperion on my co-op term at IBM. My co-workers had a book club and Hyperion had been their last book and they suggested it to me. I loved the book. It was amazing and has a lasting legacy.

At the Ontario Open for my first pinball event as a suppressed player. I am happy that the TD is also allowing people to opt out of IFPA participation. I was wondering if it would help with nerves and playing better. So far, no. Lol

I am feeling a hint of optimism for the first time since the OBX flippers incident. The resignation of the WAB. The change.org signatures (3.5% of the active player base). Many TDs unified in pulling the IFPA sanctioning of their events in protest. Players suppressing. This is not going away.

I feel since the big Kashi strike, quality control has gone downhill. I often get incorrectly packaged bars. This was surprising though, 7 bars instead of 5. Weight was way off. Heck, this might have set off the self checkout machine at the grocery store.

My disappointment in Google is difficult to put into words. The company I left at the end was not the same as the company I joined at the beginning. But part of me still hoped that they stood for some of their principles. Where's the billionaire willing to use their wealth to make the world better.
