I fear that educational theaters these days are too easy to use, so students learn to abstract away all the controls and networking infrastructure and configuration it takes to make a theater function. Make theaters jankier! (and save some money in the process)

ETC CEM3 power controllers have a built-in web server that is, in my opinion, perfect. Even includes a syntax command line to test circuits!

Electronic Theatre Controls is one of the few equipment vendors on my network who actually owns a MAC address space- 00:c0:16. Most other vendors just use the MAC assigned by their NIC provider.

Last night’s article in the Washington Post about D.C. police responding to a 911 call by illegally letting DOGE onto private property is unlike any news story I have ever read. Every single person should read this article and think about where our society is going.

Their messaging is a bit confusing but ETC's new Prodigy Balance is very cool. Every arbor has a built-in winch. Load the pipe, then haul the arbor back down to add weight. Weights are engaged via switches like a weight machine at the gym.

The emergency lights in the theater I help run are self-contained battery units with a fancy/expensive test feature. They activate themselves every few months to check they still work. anyway it's bad if a bright light randomly turns on in a theater so we have to tear them out and put in dumb ones
