One point that I don't think has been made yet, but Rick Atkinson discusses at length in his book (and in Worlds Turned Upside Down) is the problem the British have of projecting power over 3,000 miles of ocean. They just can't fly men and supplies over the Atlantic and reinforce the army. #HATM
