Last game of @breakoutcon.bsky.social was the long awaited Stationfall by Ion Games. It's a really fun design that leads to a great narrative. We played with 9 players which is a double edged sword. It's hilariously chaotic but the downtime between turns is a bit long.

Day 2 of @breakoutcon.bsky.social has been a brain burner. 1st, it was Pampero. Run a clean energy company in Uruguay. It's one of the most intimidating looking games I've ever seen. But it flows fast and gets incredibly tight with 4 players. #tabletopgames #boardgames #breakout2025

Day 1 of @breakoutcon.bsky.social ended with a couple of games of Gun It. Thematically it's the car chase scene from every movie. Mechanically it's a real time co-op where you need to plan everybody's moves in 30 seconds. I should hate it, but I don't. It's a fun little filler.

1st game of @breakoutcon.bsky.social is our traditional Battlestar Galactica. It was also the fastest BSG game I've ever seen. Callie and Baltar teamed up for a near perfect Cylon victory. If the Centurions hadn't gotten us, the empty fuel tanks would have.

What's better than building Jurassic Park? Competing to see who can build the best Jurassic Park! Dinogenics by NinthHavenGames is the best dinosaur park game out there (a surprisingly crowded field). Amazing production and super thematic game play.

For my birthday, Grace took me to forge my own Axe (ok, technically a hatchet). We forged the head by hand from a lump of steel. Best birthday ever! If you're in Toronto, I highly recommend Axcadmy! Pics from start to finish.

A new play of one of the first games in my modern hobby experience. Owned and sold 20+ years ago. Zombies!!! by Twillight Creations All I can say is I remembered the zombies being more of a threat. None of us so much as lost a life. Not a game I need. Looks pretty though.

2 games to practice my Spanish. Tzolk'in by Czech Games and La Granja: No Siesta by Stronghold Games Tzolk'in is my favourite Italian design. Teohua...whatever fell flat but Tzolk'in is an amazing strategic experience. Love it. No Siesta is a great heavier roll and write!

Posting the games played this week & realized, I didn't post last week! Last week we played Roborally! It's chaotic and unpredictable but always a hoot. We play with 2 house rules, including if one player is eliminated, whoever is in the lead wins. Who else loves Roborally?

Hello Kitty: Day at the Park by Maestro Media Looks like a kids game, but plays for adults. The 8+ is deceiving. There is a real gamer game here. Check out J. thinking hard on the first couple turns if you don't believe me. :)

Didn't go to the concert but let's face it's Taylor Swift's loss. I'd kill it as a back up dancer.

I'm a "serious gamer", and shouldn't enjoy this kind of thing but Grace and I were at a coffee shop and played some Guess Who and a generic stacking game. And you know what? We had a blast. It's important to remember not to get too full of ourselves. Games are fun!

The new hotness! Andromeda's edge! Worker placement with conflict and really pretty space stuff. There's a lot going on and a lot to like, but with 4 players, you can't really strategize, and it's a long time between turns. Love to try it with 3. That'll be the sweet spot.

1st 2 player game afternoon with @@parkerjeff.bsky.social in months! First up was Oranienburger Kanal by Uwe Rosenberg. Really enjoy this one, but it suffers by comparison to Glass Roads. Next was Dinosaur Table Battles by Hollandspiele. This one falls flat without lots of repeated plays.

Psychic Pizza Deliverers Go To Ghost Town. Quite a game title. A hidden movement game where everyone's movement is hidden. Only the mayor knows where you are. You need to find a pizza and deliver it, avoiding the ghosts. It works, it's fun, but it's not right for our group.

Last night was a true classic! Fury of Dracula 2nd edition from Fantasy Flight Games. Dracula took the win after Godalming launched a brilliant but flawed attack in the middle of the night!

2 new kickstarters this week with fantastic themes and insane production. It is a golden era. Unconscious Minds by Fantasia Games explores psychoanalysis as one of Freud's early associates. Through Ice and Snow by 2 Tomatoes Games takes on the quest for the Northwest Passage!

Lots of games new and old last week. Up first was Robotech Reconstruction by Strange Machine Games and @drwictz.bsky.social A COIN game after the 1st robotech war. Vert cool asymmetrical 4 player game. My REF looked like a lock in turn 3 but an insanely clever play by Reed gave the RDF the win.

And now a game no one's heard of. Kappa Bros by Itten Games. Technically a two player game, but there's no reason you couldn't play with more. The rules are simple: Throw the fish dice, add water and/or move the water, don't spill. Silly and fun! What more do you want?

My most anticipated want to play has been played! Arcs by Leder Games ! An amazing design and a lot of fun. We did have a few rules questions and it feels like some of the campaign decisions might neg affect the base game but still really good. I definitely need more plays!

3 games last night! Hit Z Road by Space Cowboys is an amazingly cohesive and gorgeous package. Sadly the game is a bit meh. Heat by Days of Wonder is a lot of fun. Blinged out with an awesome truck! FORK by Tate Wu, a bluffing tricktaker that I'll be digging into further.

Just three for the Monday night group, which is perfect for The Expanse by Wizkids. Confession time: I wasn't a fan of the show. Still here? Good, because the game is very good. There are a few design choices that seem to be theme before design but still very good.

A game day that broke my brain in 2 games. Inventions by Eagle Gryphon is quickly becoming one of my favourite Vital Lacerda games. The combos are just so satisfying. And Through the Desert by Zman games and Reiner Knizia is always a brain burny hate fest that I love!

Last tweet was too positive so let's get negative. First up is not a bad game, and I'd play it again, but I wouldn't ask for it. Imperial Settlers just didn't get me excited.

The weirdest and most interesting book I've read in a long time. It reminds me of Someone Comes to Town, Someone Leaves Town by Cory Doctorow. Don't know why, they have nothing in common, but that's how weird they both are. Check out Library on Mount Char by Scott Hawkins

Got to play the newish hotness, Dwellings of Eldervale by Breaking Games Other than a little kickstarter rules bloat, I really like this one. The magic cards are a bit swingy but that'll smooth out with repeated plays. Big plus, the best component trays I've ever seen.

I love "new to me" games. And we played 2 last night! MERLIN by Queen game. A roll and move with a surprisingly depth of choices! FAITH OF CURRENCIES by HLKT. A currency exchange game from Japan with amazing components and a fun theme. A few translation issues but neat.

Last night's game was a bit more intimidating. Inventions: Evolution of Ideas by Eagle Gryphon and Vital Lacerda I love all of Vital's games and this is no exception. In some ways it reminds me a bit of CO2 but with more chaining of actions. Can't wait to try it again!

After a leisurely bbq lunch, game day has begun jn ernest. Our first game is Botany by @ Dux Somnium After an hour my initial impressions: amazing art, longer than expected and a bit more luck based than expected. I'll check back after the game is finished.

Taking turns being sick, so it's been a month since our last game night. We were reduced in number but strong in spirit. Game 1 was Charms from New Mill Industries. Quick review: Love it! Even the button tokens are surprisingly satisfying.

The last games of BreakoutCon were Silver Coin from Bezier games and Mansplaining from Breaking Games. Neither will light the world on fire but Mansplaining is better than I expected. Well actually...
