“political pragmatism” is defined as much by the answer to “or else what?” as any politician’s bravery, bias, or other dedication to principle

Republican politicians fear for their physical safety from the right! Democrats don’t even fear their voters will vote for someone else, much less that workers will shut/slow down their air travel if they’re upset with some caving or rottenness Who do you think will hold the line better?

if the threat a politician feels from you is “maybe I’ll vote for some primary opponent and then begrudgingly you in the general election if it comes to that” — you are offering little threat or incentive to care about you as opposed to their donors and other elites they’re in rooms with constantly

if the lesson you take from all this is that folk need to “vote better” in one or three or five years, or that we just need to elevate better faces to high places to get your desired result, consider: air travel workers have this leverage all the time not without great effort, but it’s there
