There's always a little part of me that sort of hopes that one day I'll mention I spent a significant amount of tine as a 14 year old in a WoW guild called "Built Horde Tough" and suddenly someone will be like "Oh HEY! I was in that guild too! I was xxxx!"

Do I think Legends was good? Sometimes. Sometimes not. Often times it was goofy as fuck. Sometimes it was gross and sexist. One time 9/11 derailed an entire massive storyline into getting weirdly detailed on the Star Wars equivalent of Slannesh worshippers. But it was fun and what I grew up on.

I know I don't really have a horse in the Star Wars race anymore (I have largely just checked out of the fandom and never really connected to the new Canon universe in any meaningful way) but I think the thing I miss most is the ability to pull some batshit factoid out to tell people about the EU.

A small fascination of mine is how movies/tv yse the visual language of the belongings associated with a character to inform that character. Clothes, cars, weapons, drinks of choice, favorite foods, what phone they carry, what furniture is in their home etc. There's a lot of information buried there

Like, again this is anecdotal, but I'm a pretty big video gamer. I play a lot, I play with friends and I buy a lot of games in a year. I buy maybe 1 or 2 of the big 60 (I won't pay 70) dollar releases in a year. Almost everything I buy is smaller titles or deeply discounted games from prior years.

I'm no pundit or industry insider so, you know, grain of salt here but this is entirely a problem of industry leaders' own making. Video games are insanely popular and yet these companies expectations make everything a failure to them. Not every game needs to cost as much as a small country to make!

As much as I devour ttrpg source books I do think that this attitude at least partially comes from the depth of world detail people become accustomed to from them. Star Wars the movie explained fucking nothing and made no sense from a worldbuilding perspective because it *did* *not* *matter*

My brain, when I'm 20 minutes of work from the end of painting my Trench Crusade Prussians and havent even started painting any of my Armageddon box: "You should repaint all of the power armor on your entire Sisters of Battle Army and redo the bases so noth of them aren't the same brown color."

The fact that more JRPGs don't crib the Social Link mechanics from Persona wholesale blows my mind It is such an engaging system that both keeps players interested and encourages getting attached to the cast which is a HUGE deal for the genre

Between Worm and Stephen King blitzing to catch up before Other Worlds Than These comes out in October I'm up to over 10k pages read this year! And that isn't counting the first half of Eyes of the Dragon or Senlin Ascends, both in progress now, or however many pages of The Knot I have read.

Went whitewater rafting yesterday and now I've had a slow morning with strong coffee, followed by some mini assembling, audiobook time, and getting bread dough going. Now to play some Project Zomboid while it rises and then hang out with my partner and play co-op horror games. Its a good weekend.

Picked up Kenshi today, a game I've had my eye on for a while now. Because I never make things easy on myself and don't want to look up anything about how to play I chose the "Slaves" start. It gave me two characters so naturally I made myself and my friend Alan and together we are slaves. Yippee?

I know my opinion on this means nothing but I with other TTRPGs that are unique and interesting and tonally very different from D&D (Vampire, Legend of the Five Rings, etc) would stop releasing 5e hacks. I don't want people who won't play other systems having an excuse when asked to play these.
