Soon the bakers at the market will start selling wintery sweets. We should go there, you'll like it.

The usual, at the moment I'm preparing scented creams for the winter season, with cinnamon, cloves, and vanilla. The ladies will love it.

Some of Josef's favorite herbs - sage, lavender, chamomile - were accompanied by classic flowers like roses. Hopefully Benedict wound enjoy the scent, too.

He has not given @gentlebenedict.bsky.social enough flowers lately. And when he thought he looked sad in his sleep in the candlelit basement, Josef went out to get him a bouquet for when he wakes up.

"I would scatter your ashes over a meadow with the best wildflowers." He looked into Benedict's eyes, his eyebrows furrowed in a serious expression. "It's not time yet. Don't leave."

For a moment, the question made Josef think. But then the answer was simple. "I don't think I will. As things are... I will die centuries before you." He quickly added: "And I would rather not be burned, but placed in a crypt, or... given to students."

"Does this help make it better?" Josef pointed at the honey tincture he spread on the burn wounds. "Or has medicine no effect on you, as you heal all by yourself?" "Burns are nasty," he added quietly.

"I'm curious by nature." Mixed reasons came to his mind. His morbid fascination with death... and with defeating it. The dark storm that called for horror stories. And... "There is a lot I wonder about since I met you. A whole new world, that was unknown to me."

A year ago Josef had not even believed in angels, but with all that he was learning about Benedict, he was opening his mind to learn about the unbelievable. "If I noticed a presence in the shadows, I'd first think it's you."

"What would be the difference between seeing a ghost and seeing your guardian angel?" Josef went to the window to let a breeze of cool night air in after the storm had calmed down a little.

He shuddered at the thought of feral blood drinkers. And he wasn't yet sure what to make of the ghosts. "No... should I? Are they... here?"

"But how much have you seen?" He raises his head at the mention of ghosts. "Have you seen ghosts?"

"Do you think there are others?" He quickly sorted his thoughts to explain what he meant. "Other forms of... existence beyond death. Ghouls, maybe?"

"Sometimes I wonder if any other bodies will wake up again in this house. Since I have known you... I make sure to sew them back up after I got what I wanted." He said it in a lighthearted way, but it was true. Sometimes he saw a sleeping vampire in the bodies.

"You have a few of those." Josef smiled. "And that's comforting. Apparently, we retain our humanity even in death. And it's just that... most dead cannot talk about it." He nodded to his bed. "You can stay, and if the lightning hits, we will be in it together."

He's looking handsome today. Did he have a drink already?
