Oh yes! My favorite part was the curl of the shell. But, I preferred rabbits.

Oh my goodness, I am not that old!

He would love that, and would wear it often.

He loves it! Flowers are sweet, but herbs are exciting to his senses!

He awoke first to the smell of blossoms and greenery before seeing the source. With a pleasant gasp, he moved to the flowers for a closer look.

“Thank you.” Benedict studied Josef for a moment, his own delicate brows furrowed before he closed his eyes and leaned just enough to barely brush his nose against the other’s cheek. Not daring for more.

He nodded, taking note of the request before he continued. “And if I were to leave within your lifetime?” As if he were going on a trip.

“I-I don’t know.” He whispered and inhaled through his nose at the touch against the blistered skin. It hurt, even as it healed. “When my time comes, will you scatter my ashes?” He is not sure where the question came from.

He wanted to hide this from Josef, knowing it would frighten him. With a strained smile, he waited for his arm to heal.

Playing with fire again. If he could just endure the flames.

The smile quickly returned. “I don’t know what that says about you or I! I am neither ghost nor angel, and have been taught to blend in with mortals. After a pause, Benedict leaned in slightly toward the man, curious. “Why do you ask these questions?”

The smile faded pensively. Benedict did not expect this line of questioning from him. “Angels appear to us however they want, but they are not ghosts. They do not have the heaviness of soul nor are they unaware of themselves the way ghosts are.”

Benedict laughed softly, but not unkindly. “No, at least I don’t think so! It isn’t a preternatural skill by any means. But sometimes.. walking through the streets, or in old houses, I will catch a glimpse of.. something. It looks human but I cannot sense it as such. It never remains long.”

He shrugged dismissively at the first question. “The only ghouls I have seen have been cruel mortals or feral, ancient blood drinkers.” The talk of ghosts was far more pleasant. “Oh, yes! Haven’t you?”

He sat up at the question. “Ghouls! Absolutely not! At least, not that I have seen.” He then paused to consider the question, glancing down at his outstretched feet briefly. “But ghosts, yes. People who are trapped on earth for some reason or another.”

“Oh, you needn’t worry about that! I would tell you if that happened. And I’d be just as surprised!” He gave a little chuckle.

Benedict smiled at the idea as his gaze followed the gesture toward the bed before he moved to sit down upon it. His smile widened a little as he spoke, “of course you do! People don’t know how to be anything other than what they are. It is only that state of being that changes with death.”

Hm, no. But he isn’t hungry. Just happy for the slightly warmer weather. Spring is in the air.

He stepped in, closing the door behind him as he spoke. “No, for the same reasons you mentioned. …. And yet, there always seems to be this little part of me that feels unsettled.” He smiled and shrugged dismissively. “It’s silly. A vestige of mortality that won’t die.”

He gave a little smile. “The storm sounds bad. I… you’re not worried, are you?” There was a flash of lightening as a rain fell in gusts carried by the wind.
