The folks profiting from consulting about AI will parrot the “You won’t lose your job to AI…” saying. What they WON’T say is that by job, they mean the function (Accounting, HR, Marketing, etc.) and functions that had 10 will only need 1. So even if you know AI, you’ll have a LOT more competition.

There’s a quiet injustice when people with a safety net talk about “betting on themselves” without admitting someone else is covering the table. If a slow quarter means tightening up (not losing your house) you’re not playing the same game as the sole breadwinner. Effort can be equal. Risk isn’t.

Real technological progress won’t be achieved until we have progress in social equality. When talented, intelligent people are marginalized because of gender, skin color, age, etc. we only tap into the most privileged of society to advance society, not the best of society.

2/9 - Leadership & Management - Decision Rights & Processes - Talent Development - Business Processes - Roles & Responsibilities - Knowledge Management - Recognition & Rewards

3/9 Note - these are NOT functions or departments or titles. WE create each of those as structures to standardize, control and measure each element.

4/9 Again… even in a business with just 2 people, information is collected and moves inside (KM), people get acknowledged and paid (R&Rs), there is oversight and direction (L&M), etc… informal, unorganized, and often unrecognized yet ALL are happening.

5/9 So what?

6/9 Each impacts what people work on, why they work, and most critically, how they work together (share, cooperate, and collaborate).

7/9 As organizations grow, these seven elements accumulate structure with rules, processes, and protocols. Yes, all are necessary for scaling but dangerous to connection and engagement when left unquestioned.

8/9 And when the 7 solidify, they don’t just serve to coordinate work, they quietly teach people how safe it is to speak, when to and if to share, and if to help one another.

9/9 So culture isn’t what an org says they value, more it’s what these 7 elements and the systems supporting each make normal.
