Comment on a local page that a shopping street is dying because of traffic-calming measures, that it doesn't feel as busy as it should. They're clearly on that street, walking. Because that's always been the easiest way to experience it. And drivers don't do their shopping there.

And once again .. as a woman on my own I become invisible in some restaurants. A family came in after me, faffed around for ages, and the waiter *still* came to take their order first. I don't mind restaurants being family-friendly but they don't have to be single-unfriendly.

This feels very traditional. Just checked and the default evensong treble part is the 'Cathedral Choir' (all boys) rather than 'St Frideswide Voices' (all girls). They only perform together on important feast days.

An article about the beer and pub scene in an area with rubbish public transport that doesn't mention drink driving. The only mention of public transport is a landlord's initiative to partner with other pubs along a bus route - and then only in the context of attracting tourists.

The Sam Thielman writing advice is interesting. I was the same when I wrote, much preferred editing and improving to the first draft, but I see lots of writers on here who loathe that part of the process.

I put a hold on a library book, part of the stock of a (temporarily) closed branch. Been told it's ready to collect ... from that branch. What makes it worse is that I'd never have paid for the hold if the library weren't shut.

We all know that the best way to get action from an email is to be completely clear what you're asking, preferably with a deadline. But when we do it outselves it's so tempting just to forward on the chain with 'Please action'.

Judging by what everyone's swapping out from the veg bag, it's going to be parsnip soup for dinner at the charity which takes the leftovers.

I finished this today. It's so good. It's funny and well-written, so even if social history, messing about in boats and a wry look at relationships doesn't add up to your perfect book, I still recommend it.

I can't find that controversial takes thread but guys, I have one. Manet was a million times the artist any of the original impressuonists were and frankly the greatest French artist of his generation.
