Tuesday saw the first of this half term's children's events run by the Tice's Meadow Bird Group. The main activity was weaving and everyone had a great time under the guidance of Beverley. @surreycc.gov.uk

Today we revisited the two Tern rafts on the Workings to adjust the new ramps. While we were there, we also ringed 9 Black-headed Gull chicks! Another 7 were too small, with at least 18 eggs yet to hatch — possibly up to 25. @surreybirdnews.bsky.social

A pleasant few hours today with the volunteers lifting the crowns of trees to enable more light to penetrate. This is for the benefit of wildlife and biodiversity. The area was checked for nesting birds first. Before and after. Some of the volunteers.

Rare sighting this morning: a White Stork circling low over the meadow (last seen Aug 2024). Harassed by a Red Kite, it didn’t land, soared high, and headed SE. Likely returning to Knepp Estate as part of the White Stork Project @surreybirdnews.bsky.social @whitestorkproject.bsky.social

The Kiln Barn Owls are on their journey to raise owlets for this year. The video clip shows the moment the first egg was laid. It takes about 31 to 32 days for the egg to hatch. With all things going well, we should see the first egg hatch around the 30th April/1st May. © TMBG
