The Poseidon's Fury temple was designed to look as if it could collapse at any moment. Why? According to legend, an earthquake fractured the temple, split the ground, and ruined the statue, which links back to actual history. Follow along for its environmental storytelling. 🧵

The water effects still flow and the lights still flicker outside the temple of the former Poseidon's Fury attraction, despite it closing permanently more than two years ago. The temple still seems alive and is as stunning as ever, though its days are numbered.

"It is done!" 🔱 It's been a long time coming for The Lost Continent. As much as I wanted this to happen, part of me is sad about this change. It will be hard to imagine the park without such a powerful part of its identity.

On this day in 2017, Dragon Challenge gave its final flights. The pair of former-dueling inverted coasters debuted at Islands of Adventure in 1999 as Dueling Dragons, being the park's first major opening-day ride to shut down.

Sooooo I delayed this project after writing a few pages and realizing it was going to take way longer to produce than originally expected. It was a monster. In the meantime, I started working on a "shorter" topic, which ended up being TWENTY-TWO (22!) pages of notes.

I've said "goodbye" to this masterpiece on every visit for three years in a row now. I'm still not ready.

Busch Gardens Tampa Bay announced Stanley Falls will be retired in early September. This log flume, manufactured by the legendary Arrow Development, opened in summer 1973 as part of a $6.5 million expansion. Parkgoers have enjoyed its 40-plus-foot drop for more than 50 years.

It's no secret that I've always been a big cheerleader for Dinoland USA, so before it went extinct I wanted to commemorate it with a fun map. This map is full of Easter eggs, characters, in-jokes and even me, my husband and dog make an appearance. Bonus points if you can track down Aladar!

I'm usually team "a bad ride is better than no ride," but seeing Rip Ride Rockit being ripped to shreds in person made me smile. Bonus advert from a resort bus with a lingering image of RRR.

The other day, E.T. said my name and my name only on a completely full ride vehicle. 😭 Who knew a minor computer error could make my day so much. Love that lil fella.

Now that Rip Ride Rockit has officially shut down, what's your favorite defunct coaster?

To be clear, I've been on brutal wooden coasters, Vekoma SLCs, and Arrow loopers around the country. I've never felt pain like I did on one particular ride on RRR. It pinned my knees so hard, I genuinely wondered whether it was causing serious injury. I love this hobby.

I didn't realize then this would be my final photo of Rip Ride Rockit. A love-hate ride for me. I happily waited hours years ago. The non-inverting loop was elite. I'll never forget the pain. Excited for how the park's skyline will change. Good riddance. I'll miss you. R.I.P.

Kennywood thread! I've been obsessed with this park since my first visit a few years ago. I only had two hours in that park that day; it closed extremely early due to rain, even though the weather was perfect in the afternoon. Anyway, my second attempt was amazing! 🗓️ July 15

Six Flags America thread! This park was the reason for my trip since it's closing permanently at the end of this season. My first and final visit was a pleasant, but the coaster lineup left me wanting more—especially with many closed. I'm still grateful for my visit. 🗓️ July 14

Busch Gardens Williamsburg! This was my third visit to BGW but my first without massive crowds. It was still busy, but not a peak day. That made a huuuge difference because I enjoyed it much more than past visits. 🗓️ July 13

Kings Dominion! Although Pantherian (formerly I305) hasn’t reopened yet, I still had a great day. Jungle X-Pedition is among the best lands in any regional park—even with details like different atmospheric audio for daytime and nighttime. 🗓️ July 12

I just spent some time visiting parks in Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Ohio. Don’t mind my late posting coming up. 🫣

Until now, we’ve only seen Walt Disney move and talk through historic footage. Is part of the problem that we’re seeing him in living color for the first time? As with most theme park things, it probably looks better in person.
