People who use ebikes as their primary form of transportation give absolutely zero fucks about the amount of exercise they're getting while commuting to work. IMO seeing bikes solely as fancy exercise machines and not as a means of getting around is the very height of privilege.

Ebikes work in big cities, but work REALLY well in small communities! Easy to plan a route to avoid main roads. Miles and miles of roads with empty sidewalks (nobody walks here), paved sidewalk boulevards, the occasional bike lane, and trails. Best of all nobody constantly complaining about ebikes.

This. My wife's ebike, when folded, is far more awkward to carry or move than when it is unfolded.

This is what I'd call a quazi-ebike. It looks like an electric Vespa-style scooter, but it has been gamed to juuust barely meet Ontario's requirement for an ebike. Limited to 500W, weighs less than 150 kg, cannot exceed 32 kph, has pedals (that are functionally near-useless).

Ebikes can take you to places where cars cannot. The end of the road needn't be the end of the adventure!

If you're considering getting your child an ebike or e-scooter, strongly consider NOT doing that.

I find a throttle to be very helpful in a number of situations. Power-on-demand is sometimes preferable especially to janky cadence-based PAS. Sometimes you just need a little squirt of power to crest that hill, or (as in winter conditions) you want more predictable application of power.

I love the walkability of Toronto - everything you need practically at your doorstep - but man the cost of living there is INSANE. Sure you don't need to drive as much and you walk more, but those benefits may be offset by the sheer stress of making ends meet.

Been cycling for 35 years - not ONCE have I worn anything other than whatever normal clothes I happen to have on at the time. You don't need lycra. You don't even need a fancy bike. Cycling truly is for EVERYONE.

Imagine how much you pay to keep a car on the road. Fuel, maintenance, insurance, registration, etc. Think about it and write down a number. Now imagine, instead of the number you wrote down, the cost was ~$0. What would you do with the money you saved? This is the reality of ebikes.
