The good thing is, when I was working last night my art was looking as cute as ever (is it ever ok to say that about my own stuff? 😅 I do like my own art) and hadn’t suffered from the extended break. My joy during the work seemed to be there again, too.

It caught me off guard because I’ve had far longer queues that I completed in a fraction of the time. Generally, overwhelming myself has been an excellent motivator for 15 years. This time, something short-circuited I suppose…

This is very different, and the break would have been fine were it not for owed commissions, which rightly makes me feel like a piece of 💩 even (or worse) because the ones waiting are all pretty close friends of mine.

I have had occasions where I was injured and couldn’t draw (and sobbed daily on my bed). And I’ve had periods where I was desperate to draw and tried, over and over, but didn’t like anything I made. This also made me lay on my bed daily and cry.

Not gonna lie, the whole “not drawing for weeks/a month+ by personal choice/lack of desire” has been really weird and never happened to me before. Existentially, it’s a bit unsettling.

I guess I just wanted to give some sort of sign of life. My heart feels broken about a lot of things. But I’m here. I’m trying. I no longer feel safe sharing opinions anywhere, for varying reasons. Between that, and the societal obligation of alt text, I don’t feel I have much to share anymore.

But today and yesterday I worked on a commission for hours. I’m trying to get back into the swing of things; it’s just really, really hard.

I self-censor/second guess basically anything I write anywhere (again, for different reasons depending on where I’m posting to). I’m so tired of it all. It’s indirectly affecting my desire to draw, too.

I’m scared/stressed about posting anything anywhere for different reasons depending on the site. And posting photos or images (art included) on social media has become almost entirely overwhelming and unfun due to the need to post alt text for it all.

I’m sorry that I’ve been so quiet. I have a lot of unreplied messages including birthday ones. I’ll get to it, I promise. I guess overall I’m not coping super well with life. Life’s not exactly bad, but I’m always overwhelmed and stressed now. It affects everything else.
