I do enjoy Bluesky but not as much as pre Musk Twitter. But two things currently bug me. Lack of edit functionality and all the people posting about impeachment like they forgot that Trump was impeached twice and was then reelected. It’s like they still think impeachment is a magic anti Trump pill.

WW2 weekend at Midway Village Historical Park in Rockford, Illinois.

A early morning visit to Forest Hill Cemetery in Madison. A place of burial for luminaries like Robert La Follette and a place of ancient burials from the time before European arrival.

In November 1944, on Thanksgiving weekend, a Army Air Corps C-47 cargo plane traveling from Chicago to Minneapolis iced up and crashed on top of Blue Mounds west of Madison. All 4 servicemen were killed including a young officer going home for the holiday. The area is now a state park.

Also in the Oneida Reservation adjacent to the Veterans Memorial is a wonderful Historical Park showing parts of the nation’s history and culture. It is a growing park it looks like with what looks like space for living history presentations and outdoor classes. Excited to come back and visit again

For Packers fans here are a couple of Markers relating to two Packer legends. Curly Lambeau grave is actually not where the marker is. It’s located in a cemetery near the marker which is on a walk and bike trail. Lombardi modest ranch style house is also nearby the marker in a quiet neighborhood.

So the historical explorer in me searches out markers and stories out in the wild. 3 interesting ones I have come across lately include a Immigrant group from the Isle of Man, a WWII plane crash in a Wisconsin State Park, and a Mormon who defied Brigham Young.

It is 162nd Anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg. This place of sadness, violence, sacrifice is one of my happy places. I am never more alive and engaged than on a Civil War battlefield. Strange I know. But my history nerd mind kicks into gear and even now after 40 years of visits I love it so.

Might be time for Blue State and Red State Governors Trump don’t like to make sure their Security, State Police and National Guard are loyal to the Constitution and rule of law. This includes Florida and Georgia. Also Mayors and Legislators. Who do you have to keep you safe.

Proud of our boys for volunteering to form the honor guard and render Honors this morning at the Dodgeville Cemetery. So many of the Legion and VFW members are unable to perform these anymore. Nice to see younger people who care.

One of the saddest and most beautiful places I’ve been to is Shiloh National Cemetery. Brenda and I visited this morning to honor the fallen of all decades and specifically to place Wisconsin flags on the Flag bearers of the 16th Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry. All six who died on the first day here.

Stop in Erie Pa. Presque Isle State Park. Beautiful place. A lot of walkers and people fishing in the bay and lake. Also birding weekend so a lot of older white people dressed like Jr Rangers with binoculars and cameras. Hey, whatever gets you excited to be outside on such a beautiful day.

Off to Cooperstown to celebrate my son’s Masters program graduation.
