He’d exhale some hot air from his nostrils, but relent from following through with his threat. “Then I’ll just prove it.” And with that, he’d turn to start stomping away.

“Grgrhrgh I DO mean it this time! Does this look like the face of someone who’s lying? And you better watch your next words or I’m gonna deck you.”

“Hrrrrnnnhhh. I guess I haven’t been working as hard as I should be.” It almost seemed as though he were taking this to heart. Although considering his past track record that wasn’t a guarantee.

“W-Well…like…like what?” He lowered his voice, brow furrowing. “I get told that a lot, and every time I try something folks like you just say it ain’t enough. So what is it?”

“Yeah, I—Eh? Wh-? Hey! Don’t go treating me like a minor inconvenience!” Another couple of stomps, but not much else.

So, basically a test run. Kiburi was understandably skeptical. After all, it wouldn’t be the first time someone’s tried to use him for a job, and then leave him high and dry when the cops came sniffing. “And how do I know you’re gonna make good on this?”

An audible grumble as he started approaching her now. “Yeah, as long as you’re not jerking me around. Now you gonna cut to the chase or what?” He loomed over her now, arms crossed.

“Hmph.” He tosses that runt aside for now, letting them scramble off with their dignity barely intact. Now his eye was on this new gal, whose words caught both his intrigue and ire. “Do I look like one of them goody two-shoes?” He’d snort. “I’ll do whatever’s needed if the pay’s good enough.”

“Mother’s Day, eh? So that’s why all these chumps have been carrying flowers.” He chomps down another bouquet of roses.
