Sat here turning encoders trying to name a patch on a reverb pedal and wondering why this is still the most miserable part of sound design in 2026.

My silly little sci-fi hexcrawler is releasing to early access in like 9 days! Inspired by the MageKnight boardgame, it also pulls from JRPGs, visual novels, and even Monster Hunter - pick a target and track it through the Megacities, tailoring your party as you go in order to defeat the nightmare.

A sneak peak into the development of indie games:

The shooter prototype has turned out to be pretty entertaining. This ship uses its exhaust as a weapon, hence spinning it in circles trying to defend from the swarmers.

Been pretty quiet as i've been creating upgrade paths for nearly 40 cards in Grist. It's taken on average a day to do each card - some more, some less, depending on upgrade complexity. A lot of them have required new status effects or event hooks to be implemented. But finally I'm on the last one.

Finding it very difficult to be excited about Artemis given literally everything else that's happening.

Every screenshot I see of crimson desert is just the PC filling most of the frame and looking at the camera. It's terrible marketing.

i burnt out slightly on working through card upgrades in grist so took a couple of days to work on this shooter instead. it's kinda fun, think survivors-like but with more emphasis on movement. And a tractor beam.

The old prototype this is built on had a tractor beam for picking things up and dragging them around. I found you can use it to give XP drops a little momentum, which makes them easier to pick up.

Running on steamdeck I can get about 4500 physics entities before it starts dropping frames. A few obvious optimizations I can make in collision testing that would boost that number

making a complex turn-based battle system has been super fun, but tbh next game i want to do something where at least half the joy is just in moving around.

bendy lasers! i'm currently working through upgrade paths for all the player skills and this one allows an attack that normally hits all enemies on a row to refract and change line. very useful i think!

random digging in old prototypes. this "thrust like" project could have some potential? while playing i realized you can use the ships laser as a rangefinder thanks to the debug showing contact distance - i think there might actually be something in that?

new critter! corporate mecha miniboss, armed with a rotatry canon it's also capable of launching homing missiles. the best defence against this one is keeping mobile and making use of orders that combine movement with attacks.

starting the week with a little noise generation on the CRT shader. i like it nice and subtle just to give some texture to the black background. plus it's a nice way to ease back into brain work after i spent all yesterday clearing fallen trees

fixing up the gamepad controls today after breaking them in a few areas. since i have sprite sheets for icons now...

today in have a complain about things, every synth/drum-machine/whatever out there with a sequencer needs a knob i can turn to rotate the sequence. a hotkey. idc how awkward just give me one please thankyou. dedicated to the rad sequence i just recorded that is half a bar out.

toying around with more icons for things like "deck / discard / exhaust" piles. i'm considering having a pure ascii mode, and an "extended" type mode but not sure if there's actually much care about a pure version?

damn i'd love to be free to do a 7DRL. Once Grist is released hopefully I'll have some time to clean up the engine and get it in a useable state for future random projects.

"Why do you hate Metacritic". I hate it when people try to use numbers to represent things that are not numbers. It offends me as a math person. We invented all these fancy ass representational structures. We have groups and fields and lattices. And you look at "Nier". And you say "this is a 7".

If you, like me, are scared of Qud, I strongly recommend these mutations for your first character: Carapace: high armor value, built-in cold and heat resistance, can ignore main armor slot Wings: can move quickly, can run away and escape, can avoid melee, won't get lost Night Vision: no torches!

The 30 seconds it takes Grist to compile is just long enough to work out who is selling Curtis CEM 3340 chips, throw 10 of them in a cart and start daydreaming about a voice-per-finger ribbon controlled synthesizer.

weird bug.

it's just occured to me that because of the way i manage text in the game log, if i want the cursor to park at the end of the line like in the above image, "WriteLine" should have the CR/LF at the beginning of the line. Which is plain weird. The alternative is faking it, so uhh idk.
