I never understood why some producers talk trash about genres they don't like. They always act like it's easy to make or has no quality. For me, trying to make different styles of music is great practice, and that's why I rarely talk crap about any genre.

I kid you not, I dreamt that my master channel was clipping with absolutely no limiter to be found anywhere in Cubase. Pure horror. Felt like those dreams where you run as hard as you can but you’re not moving.

I keep seeing the same two issues with DAWs all the time. 1: Windows. Every update screws something. Sound settings, drivers. it's a nightmare. 2: audio interfaces, and it's almost always the drivers. Always hearing about Tascam, Focusrite, UAD having issues. Never RME or Neumann.

How many of you play football games on PC? I recently went back to PES 2013 and compared it to the newer games. I think new games focus on realistic movement (kinda dislike this) but unrealistic dribbling (I dislike this even more), while 2013 is all about tactics and more into arcade style of play.

You’ll love this one! Kick + bass bus channel strip, first Saturn in warm tape, then the API 2500 for light compression at around 1–2db of gain reduction. Next, add the SSL bus compressor -1db. Finish with an EQ, an SPL EQ works well here, but the API 500 series could be an even better choice.

SSL preset day continues, parallel drum compression this time. Send your drums to an FX channel, load the SSL use settings below, and move the threshold to 8–12 dB of reduction. Start the channel volume at 0 and slowly raise it until the kit feels punchier, more in your face and with more color.

A solid SSL compressor preset for snares and claps, great as a starting point. Just nudge the threshold until you're getting 2–4 dB of reduction, then bring it back up with the makeup gain. UAD's SSL is the best, but Waves is solid too.

If you want to make great music, you need quality VSTs and good tools. You can’t make a good pie out of mud. Don’t fall for the narrative that a DAW and stock plugins are enough. At some point, you have to invest in better sound and different sound colors!

I keep hearing people bring up mixing and mastering like they're these two separate things, but I just treat my master bus like any other bus, shape the tone how I want it, glue everything together, and push the loudness with a limiter or usually a maximizer. So I'm basically mastering as I go.

every new producer feels behind at first. Stick with it and 10 years from now you'll be way ahead of everyone who quit or got complacent. Learn something new with every track, watch tutorials (those long ones). It takes 5-10 years to go pro. This is the best tip someone could give you.

I’m now on the third tutorial, this time on orchestral hybrid. I can see why Cubase is considered the most complete DAW. The expression maps and MIDI are excellent, and the level of detail you can achieve is impressive. So yeah, Cubase is probably the best choice for multigenre production

The funniest part about my broken leg yesterday was at the doctor’s. I walked in for an X-ray, then walked out into the waiting room calling my wife, “Yo, it’s broken” Everyone freaked out, and I just looked like I came in for a cup of coffee. Hilarious.
