This is what it did for me. 2 years on Spotify got me 50 cents at best. (Youtube music paid better which is ironic) Then 2 weeks on bandcamp and my first sale eclipsed that number from spotify by a mile. 40$ from a very, VERY generous individual.

If you use that $12 to buy 2-3 albums directly from an artist, chances are pretty high that your purchase will amount to more than they have EVER earned from streams on Spotify.
