Loved this! I do a lot of thinking about where account books were written, consulted, and stored, and this example—a literal grain tucked between pages—does a great job of bringing those materialities to the fore.

My work in progress: recreating this ca.1600 jacket, V&A 173-1869, in polychrome silk on linen. I started in Nov 2021 & have completed the embroidery on the back & 2 front panels. Working on the first sleeve now.

Had to return to my research today for a book chapter I'm finishing up and now I want to spend the whole day looking at little books and stitched pages and .... wow I miss the archives.

A little late to the game, but glad to finally be here! I'm a historian of early America in my first year on the tenure track at Elon University! I'm mostly thinking about teaching right now, but love to nerd out about manuscript sources and early America more generally!
