Several things are true. Maccabi Tel Aviv's ultras are known for racism and violence. This is the concern. Using MTA issue, Zarah voiced a view unrelated to the above to make it about Israel. Was it necessary? A senior journalist said Zarah, a British citizen, should be deported. This is racist.

The amount of indirect Islamophobia from Jewish and non-Jewish people, and anti-Jewish comments from non-Jewish people in response to the Maccabi Tel Aviv ban should have surprised me. Yet, of course, it did not.

The re-emerging clarity is that my status as a Jewish person has more protection and focus for that protection than my status as a Black person.

I can not support the presence of a team or people who chant "death to Jews." In the same vein, I can not support the presence of a team or people who chant "death to Arabs." That is my position as a Black-Jewish person.

Let us break down what may have affected the decision about Maccabi Tel-Aviv. They are known for using racist slurs towards Israeli-Arab players. The New Israel Fund found MTA fans had the second-highest number of documented racist incidents in the 2022-23 season.

On one hand, non-Jews are asked not to do it. Then, some Jewish people do it. This becomes a confusing cycle. If I were a non-Jew, I would be confused.

For frig's sake, it has only been a few days since Jewish people died at a synagogue attack which may have been due to hate and anger whipped up about Jewish people on here and people are already doing "but if it were the Jews" in response to the Mosque attack. Think and learn.

One good thing that has resulted from this week, including the uptick of borderline and actual antisemitic comments, is that I have found more Jewish people to connect with Bluesky. It is imperative to look for the good within the horrendous, and hope within the hate.

Last night, there was a suspected arson attack at Peacehaven Mosque. On Thursday, the attack at Heaton Park Synagogue. There is no hierarchy to pursue. Both tell us that the demonisation of minoritised communities must be dealt with, jointly together with the same vigour.

I do not even have challah and pickles to eat as I watch non-Jews, non-Israelis and non-Palestinians argue it out.

Every Shabbat and Jewish festival, we pray for a just and equal world without oppression or suffering. Our Jewish communal grief should not mean a choice between supporting us *or* Palestinians because we should not be conflated with the actions of a nation state.

For the avoidance of doubt, this conflation is antisemitic.

The Jewish diaspora will continue to be severely let down by a government that claims it cares for us. The words recited in prayer become further from reality: a haven for the oppressed; a land that benefits all its inhabitants; and the implementation of the prophetic ideals of liberty and justice.

It is Yom Kippur. It started as most Yom Kippur mornings with fasting, reflecting with my community and re-evaluating how I advance loving kindness. Then, the news about the Manchester synagogue attack. I feel sick, hurt, and filled with tears. Yet, I must hold onto this 1/2

On Twitter, I found community; a global Black Jews and Jews of Colour community with whom I learnt and laughed. If it were not for @chanda.bsky.social, I would not be knee deep in information about the cosmos and space.

Twitter or X is found to be the go-to place for antisemitism and people are profiting from it.

As a Jewish person, I sympathise with churchgoers affected by Michigan, where a sacred space was shattered by violence. Places of worship should be sanctuaries, not scenes of terror. Whether Jewish, Muslim or Christian, the pain of targeted hate is known too well.
