How about some nice shiny tomatoes for a sunny Sunday (here in France, at least). I painted a few of these tomato paintings as I loved the shape and the warm reds. Oil on panel.

There's that hat and suitcase again. This was a commission for a man's son, whose trumpet is on top of the case. Oil on panel.

A different painting today: an old French door knocker in Angouleme. I intentionally left the knocker at an angle instead of straight up and down.

This painting was done on a deep cradled panel, so that when it's on a wall it will give more reality to the trompe l'oeil (3D) effect.

In painting this, it was the composition of the angle of the knife and the angle of the shadow that I liked (against the roundness of the pear).

This trompe l'oeil painting goes back a while, but makes me want to do more of these. I love the challenge of trying to get that depth to 'fool the eye'. Oil on panel.

Todays painting is off a peeled orange. I really enjoy painting peeled fruit as it reminds me of the old Flemish masters that I love so much. Oil on panel.

First painting of the day. This is a rare one, done on canvas ... usually I prefer the smoother finish of MDF panels that I make myself. Oil on panel.

Going back in time ... Winsor&Newton asked me to do a painting to use on the labels of a range of their canvases. I was so thrilled, I would have done it for free .... luckily I kept my mouth shut 😄 You can see the painting and the labels in the first photo.

To start todays paintings off ... another trompe l'oeil of a lemon. These 'trompes' are always life size to make the illusion work. So, I measure the size of the actual lemon and make it the same size when I do the drawing. Oil on panel.

This painting is of walnuts from my garden ... if I can get to them before the squirrels 😁 A lot of people have never seen walnuts in their green outer shell. The nutcracker is an antique. Oil on panel.
