Today, I visited Rowland Hill Nursery to meet headteacher Sian McDermott & Cllr Zena Brabazon. Lovely to be back at the nursery, which is an asset to Southgate & Wood Green. We discussed early years funding & free childcare, & the importance of support for children's centres 👶

This morning, I laid a wreath in the Garden of Remembrance in Broomfield Park for #RemembranceDay. With wonderful performances of wartime music and poetry from local schools, it was a privilege to honour those who have served, continue to serve, and have fallen. #LestWeForget

As part of #UN80 celebrations, it was great to attend the unveiling of the newly restored birdbath in Broomfield Park's Garden of Remembrance. The Enfield and the Barnet's United Nations Association have worked hard to restore the birdbath, first given to the park by the League of Nations.

It was a pleasure to catch up with my constituent, Abi, in Parliament with Road Peace. Since her fiancé, Mithun, was tragically killed in a road crash last year, Abi has been tirelessly campaigning for improved road safety on The Roundway and in Southgate and Wood Green. Well done Abi 💜

Thanks to @hospiceuk.bsky.social, I had the opportunity to talk to hospice staff and families today about fairer funding for hospices. This #HospiceCareWeek, I am proud to support the amazing work hospices do for our local communities and will continue to call for a fair funding model.

Today, I met with @pcr-uk.bsky.social to discuss prostate cancer screening and their new report. Later this year, the UK National Screening Committee will consult on prostate cancer screening - I would encourage everyone in Southgate and Wood Green impacted by prostate cancer to share their views.

Breaking news: #Enfield & #Haringey will receive Government funding to help prevent homelessness and support families. On #WorldHomelessDay, this issue is more pressing than ever with levels of rough sleeping more than doubling since 2010. This Labour Government will not stand idly by.

Yesterday, I attended the Haringey Rough Sleeping Summit. Thank you to Haringey Council for hosting this event & bringing us together for this discussion. We must continue to listen to those directly affected by this issue, as well as housing & rough sleeping specialists, on what more can be done.

It was great to chair Send My Friend To School's roundtable this week during the Labour Party Conference. It is always a pleasure to meet dedicated Campaign Champions so passionate about supporting global education. Every child deserves the chance to learn.

I am shocked and deeply saddened by the attack at the synagogue in Crumpsall on this holy day of Yom Kippur. My thoughts are with the victims and their families, along with our local Jewish communities in Enfield and Haringey.

Blue badge fraud and abuse is a disgrace. Disabled people must be able to access the parking they need. Today I went out with the BBFI and Cllr Susan Erbil in Bowes to see the steps they are taking to tackle this issue. If you misuse a blue badge, you will face consequences.

Having been a student in Liverpool at the time of the Hillsborough disaster, I am just as horrified now as I was then. My absolute solidarity is with the families of the 97 fans who lost their lives. The #HillsboroughLaw is landmark legislation to ensure truth, candour and justice after tragedy.

It was great to visit North Middlesex University Hospital today & meet the amazing staff working hard to care for patients. Good to see the Evan Nathan Smith unit up & running, visit the wonderful maternity unit, & learn about vital research into improving black health outcomes.

Great to visit the @cancerresearchuk.org Palmers Green shop to meet James & Gail, who work hard to support our community & Cancer Research UK's amazing work. Shops like this one delivered a total contribution of £28m in 2023/24 to fund lifesaving research. Proud to support local charity shops!
