1/ 🧬 Today's protein spotlight: iLOV iLOV is a tiny glowing protein used by scientists to study living cells. What makes it interesting is that it glows using a small helper molecule that is naturally found throughout biology and helps move energy and electrons during cellular processes.

We're pleased to introduce Dr. Venkatesh Sridharan, the new Head of Redox Biology at the @quantumbioorg.bsky.social. His work will explore how quantum mechanics may shape biological reactions at the molecular level, focusing on redox processes central to metabolism and cellular function. Welcome!

The Quantum Biology DAO’s latest proposal to fund the @quantumbioorg.bsky.social has passed! DP-25 allocates up to $1.2M over the next six months. We’re excited to keep supporting this work and to see what continues to come out of the lab.

Quantum biology shows up in more places than people may expect. What other biological processes do you think might be quantum?

1/ Science has never had more talent or better tools. What’s evolving now is how discovery happens. Decentralized science supports a more open and iterative way of doing research.

1/ Some of the most important mechanisms in biology were invisible when they were first proposed. For centuries, disease was explained using what people could observe directly: bad air, imbalances, environment. The idea that invisible organisms could cause illness seemed implausible.

Wanted to see what different LLMs said when asked why #DeSci matters. Not mad about the answers.

1/ No, quantum biology is not science fiction or pop-science hype. If you’ve encountered quantum biology through pop culture or vague claims, that’s understandable, but it doesn’t reflect the actual field. Those portrayals tend to flatten what is, in reality, a deep and demanding area of science.
