It was a lot of fun having Geoff join me on a tunnel walk of Mail Rail. If you want to walk them yourself, The Postal Museum have weekly tunnel tours taking place all year. Book via the website. Unfortunately, the Graveyard is not currently included, though there are long-term plans to add it.

THE MAIL RAIL - THE SMALL LONDON UNDERGROUND I had a lovely time exploring the small tunnels of the Mail Rail in London. The Mail Rail was an underground, driverless electric railway that ran from 1927 to 2003 to transport mail between sorting offices.

Not your usual Central London Saturday traffic along Pall Mall. Organised by the Royal Automobile Club (RAC), the St James's Motoring Spectacle has over 130 cars and bikes of all ages on display. Many of the 75 pre-1905 cars will take to the roads tomorrow for the annual London-Brighton car run.

Something a little different. HNLMS 'Johan de Witt' of the Royal Netherlands Navy moored in the River Thames in Greenwich. She is a Rotterdam-class landing platform dock capable of carrying helicopters and various boats and landing craft. The vessel is also equipped as a role II hospital.

Managed to catch up with the new B23 Docklands Light Railway stock today. Set 209 working the Stratford-Woolwich route. New seat moquette, and an interesting internal layout allowing for wheelchair users and plenty of standing space. Also, the front 'drivers' seats are still available.

This made me laugh way more than it should have. Simple minds and all that... 😀

There must be something in TfL launching the new 'Bakerloop' bus route, a long term temporary alternative to the planned extension of the London Underground Bakerloo Line to Lewisham, on the 200th anniversary of the railways? The buses even have Bakerloo Line seat moquette.

Stagecoach London's Catford Depot open day, helping to celebrate its 111th anniversary. A selection of buses old and new on display, including the star of the show 11011, which has received a special 'Selkent Envoy' livery.

Another successful tour completed with UK Railtours. "The Industria Ditat" tour taking 57303 & 60087 on a tour of freight lines and terminals around the North West and North Wales. Highlights including Alstoms Technical facility at Widnes and the Glan Conwy aggregate terminal.

An early alarm and journey to get a train that's cancelled. A good start to the day.

Today marks 8 years of Mail Rail at The Postal Museum, opening up a small section of the former Post Office Railway beneath the streets of London. I've been with the museum for much of that time, driving the trains and leading tunnel tours before joining the Estates team a couple of years ago.

Well, this wasn't in today's plan. I'm heading back to London, travelling via Moor Street to get a 68/MK3 set, but due to a set swap, this is what I've got instead. A pair of commuter spec Turbo units. 2 hours on this is going to be uncomfortable. Still, it boosts my Class 165 milage.

The 3rd John Fishwick & Ribble Running Day. Centred at the British Commercial Vehicle Museum in Leyland, the day provided a mix of buses on display and a network of routes covering those once worked by the two former North West bus operators.

I'm spending the weekend back in the homeland of Preston for an event. Travelled up with Chiltern to Birmingham and onwards with Avanti to Preston. 68012 on arrival at Birmingham Moor Street and 390047 similarly at Preston.

What's the weirdest place you've found a lime bike? Halfway down the spiral staircase of the Woolwich foot tunnel was a recent one for me.

Today, I've finally taken my turn to complete the TfL Superloop loop around London. 7 limited stop routes that circle the capital, though a lack of river crossing in the east means it isn't a complete loop. My total journey time was 9h 3m.

As a JB fan, it was a relief to see him finally take his first F1 victory. It would only get better a few years later with the championship win.

🧵 1/6 A couple of weeks ago, I spent a week on the Isle of Man attending their annual Heritage Transport Festival, my fourth year in a row. The island has 4 main railways, The Manx Electric Railway, The Snaefell Mountain Railway, The Douglas Bay Horse Tramway, and the Isle of Man Steam Railway.

Ah yes, that well-known destination of 'Check Front of Train'. And seemingly, there are two places of this name in London. Bonus points for anyone who can name which station this is live info for.

The Central Line is currently gaining new carriage route maps. This, however, is not one of them. It was surprising to see this route map from the 2012 London Olympics still being carried. The Pink Olympic branding highlighting event locations at Hyde Park and The Olympic Park.

I'm spending the weekend volunteering at the London Transport Museum's Acton Depot for the second of this year's open weekends. Another busy day despite the poor weather. Will do it all again tomorrow.

A 33-minute late arrival into London King's Cross ends my first (proper*) journey on Hull Trains. Nothing to fault from the crew at all, and a very enjoyable journey was had. The unknown delay at Retford and the disruptive passenger at Grantham were well handled.

I'm heading home to London today, and I spotted an opportunity to try a new rail operator. So, after travelling over to Hull this morning and spending some time in the city, it's time for my first Hull Trains service to take me down to King's Cross. A bonus double set, too.

Even though half of the Railway Museum in York is currently closed as part of the major redevelopment of the site, I was still able to spend just short of 4 hours there.

The West Yorkshire town of Huddersfield. A great town which I called home for three years while a student at the university. The scary bit for me is that 2026 marks 20 years since I started my academic studies here 😳

After a short visit to Harrogate, I completed the Harrogate Loop round to Leeds with 150222 (no Turbo unit for me today 🙁). Onwards to my next destination with my first ride on a TPE 802.

I'm starting the day covering a section of the rail network I don't recall ever doing. York - Harrogate via Poppleton. Was hoping to have my first Northern 170, but 158905 is the chosen one.

Arrival into Peterborough, and as most of the train head for the replacement coaches to continue west, for me, it's an Azuma northwards to York and journeys end for the day.

I'm heading north for a few days, but with the ECML closed between King's Cross and Peterborough, I'm taking a detour out of London Liverpool Street to Cambridge with a rare, for me, CrossCountry (and Turbo unit) move onwards.

A weekend closure of the Central Line between Leytonstone - White City means rail replacement Leytonstone - Stratford. People are also making use of the local 257 route. These often leaving full as people assume they are the rail replacement service too.

The newly opened Silvertown Tunnel in London is served by three bus routes. The extended 129 Lewisham-Gallions Reach, the SL4 Grove Park-Westferry Circus, and the SCS (Silvertown Tunnel Cycle Shuttle) between North Greenwich-Royal Dock, for use by those with bicycles only. All are free for 1 year.

Good morning from Crewe. After a very early alarm, I've just had my first journey on an Evero Class 805 down from Preston. Short formed to Crewe (10 coaches onwards), and no reservations creating some confusion. For me, it's onto LNWR's Eurovision unit to continue south.

The newest statue in the centre of Preston was unveiled in February 2025. The silent yet villainous penguin Feathers McGraw. It stands a short distance from Wallace and Gromit, who were unveiled in 2021.

The London Bus Museum's Spring Gathering at Brooklands Museum. A large display of buses and coaches of all ages within a brilliant museum housing a wide variety of transpsort modes. A highly recommended visit.

I can't believe it's been a week already since I spent a weekend volunteering at the London Transport Museum's Acton Depot for the first of this year's open weekends. A highly recommended visit for all. The next dates are 6th, 7th & 8th June.

TfL have today announced they are to take over construction of High Speed 2. Changes to the planned route will see the line run through to the Northwest via a flyover connection to the Central Line at West Ruislip. A new fleet of 24 stock will cover services, including Night Tube.

Battersea Park is normally served by two London Overground services a day. One early morning starter and one late night terminator. Today, all services on the South London Line are diverting here in place of Clapham Junction, giving the station a 15-minute Overground service.

A Gondolaless dangleway. The IFS Cloud Cable Car is currently closed for maintenance. I think all the gondolas are together at the ExCel end.
