So Kristen recently finished her first ultra marathon. 50 miles around Canandaigua Lake. It was absolutely inspiring to see her really run through the buildup of trauma over the last 3 years of us being in Rochester. Transformative.

@stevejacksongames.bsky.social I ran an assignment in a game design and development intro course called, "Design an expansion for FRAG." Some of these ideas are top notch! Proud of my students. Thought you might enjoy knowing you're helping students bridge the tabletop/digital divide well.

When what a person says and what a person believes that person meant is in disagreement, some believe the fault is the listeners. Then power gets in the way of negotiation. I think a lot about Alphonso Lingis during these times. That design and communication share this issue is a feature.

Robinson Crusoe & Friday, the Other Island form the foundation of my work. It is always there On the one hand, re-establishing modernity in the midst of disaster is seen as heroic and wanted. On the other, it is a prison we must learn to escape when disaster allows us to see outside of culture.

Sent our oldest kitty across the Rainbow Bridge yesterday. Last of the original cats we picked up as we worked from Kristen's dad's passing to vet and grad school They all helped us deal with tumultuous times. Our new boys will as well but losing this boy is recognizition of the innocence we had

It's my birthday today and we drove to a tiny town in New York to go to a bookstore. Picked up two books that are important to me and my work. A system of natural philosophy from 1844 and Robinson Crusoe from 1790. Stoked as hell.

For a long time, the group I used to play #ttrpgs with used to sneak Tom Skerritt into every game we played as an NPC. Every time he'd show up the whole table would enter into a chorus of, "He's a damn fine lookin man!" And so now every time I hear his name or see him in something, I say it. Weird

In my wife's old Derby league, there was a woman named Dildozer. I really loved this name for a long time until I realized it wasn't a bulldozer for pickles. I never gave up hope that's what she actually mean though.

Watching academics versus practitioners in the #emergencymanagement AI showdown from afar is a reminder that the disaster space is fraught with a whole lot of technological need without a lot of technological know-how. Academics, especially in tech spaces, need to support practitioner efforts.
