At Zuma Beach a few days back. The water was warm(ish) and clear. Very few people, just the way we like it. Fall is gonna Fall this Monday so we’re once again desperately holding on to Summer. Salt water and sunshine for the win!!

Last weekend we not only escaped from the Fortress of Mediocrity, we also found the edge of the Continent. We swam in the Ocean like absolute beginners. And, for a quick moment, everything was okay.

Much like Turkey Vultures, we soared into Hollywood to catch My Morning Jacket at the Palladium last night. We just absolutely adore this band. They performed “Z” in its entirety. Great sound, great crowd. Just a lovely Tuesday evening all around. Good times!!

Waiting patiently last night for the Tedeschi Trucks Band at the Greek. It was a warm Summer evening and T.T.B. rolled out another stellar show. They’ve quickly become one of our favorite live acts. Twelve people on stage. Locked in and crushing it. Good times indeed!!

Birthday gift alert! We’ve all read the books. This fantastic new book by Brian Anderson is a welcome addition to the library of every one of us who loves the Grateful Dead. It’s a great read. Well done, Sir!

What an absolute American Treasure. We were lucky enough to catch a show at the Roxy in 2000, this show as well as another show at the Hollywood Bowl in July of ‘16. Backed by The Wondermints. “Gorgeous” doesn’t quite capture how great these shows sounded. Rest In Peace. Surf’s Up.

For several years Heidi and I were lucky enough to have Dr. Teeth play a solo show at our Pepper Patch Lounge. After the recent unpleasantness we thought we would never see him again. Guess we were wrong! Just like heaven, he’s up in #307. Can You Picture That?

My dear Father who is a few months away from his 85th birthday gave Heidi and I this album a few weeks ago. Do we have a turntable up in #307? We do not. Whatever happened to this band, we shall never know.

Well, we had ourselves a weekend. Outlaw Festival on Friday at the Bowl. Cruel World on Saturday at Brookside. On our feet for close to 14 hours over two nights, careening steadily towards my 59th Birthday, which is today. Live music keeps us young. Youngish? Anyway, say Hello if you can. Love…

So, on Tuesday evening, in a desperate (and successful) attempt to hang on to Summer, we saw Taj Mahal and Van Morrison at the Greek Theater. Taj played solo and Van had a swingin’ nine piece band. Two of our all time favorite people at one of the greatest joints California! Good times.
