Syracuse used to celebrate October 1 as the anniversary of Jerry Henry's rescue from slave catchers. It feels more relevant this year.

ran into the thing this past weekend where you can't use the Onondaga Lake Trail when there's a concert because they ran the trail through the amphitheater very annoying! makes you wonder if Onondaga County actually values 'greenways and blueways' as transportation infrastructure

considering that James St between Grant/Midler has the Curd Nerd (a cheese monger), Papa John's (most items on their menu include cheese), Luv Handles (frozen yogurt, a dairy product similar in some ways to cheese), and Walgreens (frozen cheese products), hard to argue this ISN'T a cheese district

just talked to a guy who grew up in Westcott south of Euclid a few decades ago, said the area used to be a 'real neighborhood' because it had a bunch of stores where kids could hang out he rattled off a few I'd never heard of, including this one on the NE corner of Euclid and Strong

hadn't run into problems with the census adding noise to its data until this week looking at 3d maps of pop density by block at least twice in Onondaga County, the census assigned population to 'blocks' that are really just highway medians since the blocks are so small, the density really pops

the thing about this that makes me think it won't work is there's no word that rhymes with 'Hogan' such that you could make as snappy a slogan as "write down Byron Brown"

I get the idea that this is a bad move because SHA is in such disarray that the front runner in the mayoral election said she'd fire ED Bill Simmons but that's exactly why SHA retaining ownership of the buildings can be good: it's subject to real public oversight

OCDC leadership says its the responsibility of anybody who doesn't like their endorsements to join the committee but why would someone want to join an org that doesn't share their values and has repeatedly demonstrated its own irrelevance?

Syracuse’s mayoral primary was a landslide. Is it a wakeup call for old guard Democrats?
Party leaders are "selling candidates to people who are not excited about them,” one critic said.

this is true and it's why ReZone needs some reform administration policy is that Syracuse's new zoning code doesn't allow the construction of two-family homes with party walls because ReZone doesn't ever list 'two-unit, attached' as an allowed use pretty short-sighted, but pretty easy to fix too

if OCDC leadership is mad that the Democratic electorate doesn't like their designees, then they should recruit better candidates
