Almost done with updating all @projectwallace.com packages with my new stack for shipping libraries: - write source in TS - tsdown for bundling and generating dts - publint (integrated in tsdown) - oxlint - oxfmt - vitest - dependabot - codecov, also for bundle analysis

Another life goal: ✅ This was good fun! @bkardell.com and @meyerweb.com were really cool about this and had some really good questions that made me rethink some aspects of Wallace. 10/10 would recommend. 20 year old me still can't believe I get to make stuff like this.

Tried some wildly different fonts but I think Teko is just the best reflection of my border-radius:0 design. Added 2 gradients to the header at a late stage, quite like them. Added a lot more spacing to the homepage, but made the forms to submit URL a bunch smaller.

Writing specificity with commas as separators is confusing, as @meyerweb.com noted. The CSS Selection highlighted this with some edge cases like 146,546,159 which could be read as 1 number, depending on your thousands separator, which depends on locale. A very good point. What should use instead?

I'm considering hiring a designer for a couple of hours to help me with some things on @projectwallace.com. Homepage needs work and the other pages lack coherence. Do you have recommendations for a designer or how to approach this?

Video coming out later today where I'm doing an F1 team website championship. I ranked each on design (subjective, by me), performance, accessibility (both using lighthouse scores) and CSS (using project wallace score). Each round gives points out using f1 point system. Wanna guess who won?

Next on my list: see if Parsel and Rework are still a good fit for @httparchive.org's CSS almanac chapter. Need to make sure that modern features are parsed well. First looks suggest that at-layer triggers an error. The CSS selection says adoption rate of 2.7%. Yikes.

This is pretty much the only OSS project that I regularly contribute to. I thought the graph was broken or someone messed up their CI. Turns out it's useful!

Converted my 2011 MacBook air to a Xubuntu machine. Surprised that it actually runs! Installing some PWA's works really well. Needed some key remapping bc muscle memory. Might make it a homework machine for the kids.

Wow, hadn't opened wallace in chromium for a while, but performance on the analyzer page is absolute rubbish 😫

Shipped two lines of `content-visibility: auto` to Wallace. According to traces this should make layout after analyzing CSS 75% faster. Hard to actually see on my already fast machine, but hopefully noticeable for those on less fortunate devices.

I wonder if this would be a good default 🤔

projectwallace.com is also constantly hammered by old Chrome requests from Singapore, US and other players. They mostly 'visit' the homepage and some obscure docs pages. Luckily @netlify.com has me covered for hosting this. But I still hate it and will probably add an edge function to block them.

Productive weekend after publishing The CSS Selection. Added a couple of quick wins to css-analyzer pkg & projectwallace.com: ✅ `::pseudo-element` selectors ✅ `@​scope` ✅ attribute selectors ✅ `display` values ✅ group vendor prefixes & browserhacks (instead of showing all unique values)

Several people have asked about that 131mb website so I did a bit of research. However, I have trouble reproducing the results for that site. There are redirects, megabytes of html, etc. Requests keep timing out. Should I update the article because it's not reproducible?

I firmly insist that I don't let AI write any of my content but letting AI do grammatical and structural review is actually helpful. I even let it be my 'biggest enemy' and poke holes in my analysis. It found some gaps and I wrote them down as deliberate trade-offs.

Started writing! This is _a lot_ of work and being distracted to look up fun bits and do design thingies isn't helping but at least I'm having fun.

Unfortunately no CSS chapter (again) 😢 We tried in various ways to get the statistics to tell _any_ kind of story but we couldn't get the numbers in time even though several people tried. Even running the queries from previous years proved troublesome. Such a loss for this amazing initiative.

Thought: a new CSS property `all-custom`, similar to the existing `all` property, so we can revert all custom properties on an element at once. Seeing some things in the wild where people manually unset/revert hundreds of custom properties, bloating CSS size.

Quite pleased with myself that I now have the data to support some of these excellent discussions! 😆

Just completed the PR to migrate css-analyzer to Wallace's own css-parser library while maintaining backwards compatibility. Now every Wallace library has a PR to run on the new parser instead of csstree. Now trying to gain confidence to pull the trigger 😬

Started writing a crawler. The easy part. Now need to figure out how to do analysis at scale. SQLite locally with some SQL? Specialized DB for data analysis? Or plaintext files and looping over numbers? I dunno, a bit out my comfort zone here.
