I got stuck today. I have watched the news for hours. I don't want to live blissfully unaware of what is happening in this world but it is hard to bear witness to all this. These atrocities will be part of our history. You can take a break..do..but do not look away for long.

Made cranberry walnut bread at 7pm and I am about to get on the treadmill because I can't sit still. 😬🫰Turn the anxiety into energy and sing like that absolute queen Elsa. Let it go. Also why is a woman who makes bread at 7pm while listening to Radiohead not everyone's type? *sigh

I had another clean mammogram today. I will be 39 soon. My mom had breast cancer at 40. She was diagnosed right after her 40th birthday and right before Christmas of my junior year of high school. Brca1 is tough to live with but knowledge is power and has allowed me to take prevention seriously. ♡

This last episode of The Pitt got to me. During residency I held a patients hand as they passed away. The patient had no one coming to say goodbye. Myself and another nurse cleaned them up and gave them a moment of silence. I had fed and cared for them for 2 weeks. I will never forget their name.

Watching that half time show as a Mexican American with my Puerto Rican and Mexican son was something I will never forget. Beautiful brown joy. This is what America looks like.

Life without ovaries will hopefully be better now. American Healthcare sucks. I spent 3 months feeling increasingly off and with worsening migraines because I was prescribed the entirely wrong HRT and it took me this long to get in to see someone to get the correct doses. First patch just went on. 🤞

Logan and I decided we should go to a concert per year for our birthdays starting last year. This year we are going to see Motionless in White. My second time seeing them and his first. Experiences as gifts are my fave.

A 20min appt took 4hrs today because the roads were shit. I left early and was 5 minutes late but my provider was even later and then I made it home just in time to take the kid to the orthodontist and then we both have to go to the dentist but apparently mine is cancelled and his is not. What a day

I miss my book club but 7pm on Tuesdays is just not convenient and I barely ever make it. I still read many of the books though. If anyone wants a good reads or book buddy let me know. My next read is Breakfast of Champions by Kurt Vonnegut. A book about finding the truth seemed fitting this month.

Today I had one of my favorite type of moments. A few bars of a song played in a movie and in the same moment my son and I sat straighter and listened and leaned towards each other. We know this...a pause...its Radiohead. A moment of musical communion. A memory for us. These things keep me going. ♡

This week at work was absolutely insane. Also when you have to point out that the Doomsday clock is 85 to midnight and a boom is more likely than a power plant meltdown and one has some notice of an oh shit and the other is absolute chaos....ugh that is how my week was. Yeah Public Health.

When I get really stressed the spot on my back where I had shingles gets pissed. Today it is pissed... I am pissed. I made a beautiful dinner for my little family in what is supposed to be my safe little bubble of a house and I am still fucking pissed because even homes are not safe now...F Trump

I have enjoyed this book much more than I thought I would. I love epidemiology and this blends history and political impact on the identification of outbreaks and how accessibility to technology and funding impacts public health. I have learned quite a bit and been surprised by how much I knew.

They shot a nurse. One who stuck it out like I did and got licensed during a fucking pandemic. They are killing people in the streets and using kids as bait. Wtf. Get angry America. Get fucking angry.

Trying to figure out Dropbox to put all my photos from Facebook on so I can truly delete it and not just the app should not be this hard. F this cloud stuff. Also there are like no photos of me and my kid because I was a broke nursing student/single mom while raising him. It makes me sad.

Sometimes my patients cry. Sometimes it's fear, sometimes it's anxiety or anger or sadness. Every time it is ok. I am a safe person. I like being a nurse.

People often invoke George Orwell when discussing the grim state of the world, but Hans Christian Anderson, with his story about a vain, gullible emperor, and the townsfolk who are too afraid to challenge his stupidity, doesn't get the credit he's due.

I hope the rest of the world remembers those of us who did not vote for this bastard. Those of us who do not condone his behavior or believe in his insane choices. He is a joke. He is nothing but a dangerous idiot given power by other idiots. Shame on anyone who bought his snake oil.

I did a reread of The Testaments and am doing a rewatch of The Handmaids Tale. Its crazy, swap one group for another or just imagine who they may go after next..It's been hard to revisit with the ridiculous America we live in right now. Don't let the bastards grind you down. You are not alone.

I messed with insulation today and I am afraid of fiberglass. Demon cotton candy. I already feel itchy. I am proud of myself but also never again. I would rather pay someone a shit ton of money than to ever go in that attic.

Enjoy this perfectly peeled egg as my celebratory post for deleting Facebook. I want to see the news. I want to be conscious of what's happening in the world. I don't want to feel like the algorithms are toxic. I don't want to be as anxious as I have been lately. Meta has to go. One app at a time.
