Indeed. Government's proposed ILR changes are wrong morally & politically - that is the main point. But from purely *economic* perspective, they're likely to be self-defeating - the migrants most likely to be deterred from coming/staying are high-skilled/high-paid, because they have other options!

Question time tonight, Reform again saying that they “don’t have an issue with anyone who is here legally”. What they conveniently omit is that they’d simply remove people’s legal status in order to deport them (see Farage statement on ILR and benefit claimants).

You *really* should be by now but you don’t *actually* have to call them liars or racists, if it offends your commitment to now almost entirely redundant BBC principles of ‘objectivity’ & ‘ balance’.
