the world doesn't belong to those who act like they own it. it doesn't belong to anyone but especially not them. it's for frogs; apricot trees; chickadees; cats lounging in the sun; the gas station where mussolini was strung up; the feeling of someone stroking your hair; weird chords; etc.

i think i'm never thinking about my voice more than when i'm teaching because i still don't know how to not feel the artifice of my attempts to voice train yet and if i ever failed to communicate to my students the warmth and encouragement and i want them to feel i would be kinda devastated

Thank you, Rachel, for putting on this mascara, crying a bunch of different types of tears, and reporting your results, in one of your first acts of the new year.

i'm really going to miss this job when the university's newest round of union busting ends my position later this year but there is only so much of my life i can stomach giving to a frankly evil institution anyway; it can feel worth it for things like these but there is a cost to the soul

My heart is broken, so many times it seems impossible. But to have a heart still capable of breaking is to be in the fight, to know of a life lived otherwise. We will grant them no rest; we will know no greater joy and pleasure. Freedom is ours, we just need to take it

One day this great violent abomination upon the earth will be ended. Why shouldn't we see that day? What greater tribute could we pay to those weve lost then to live even one day in the light of true freedom and liberation?

the purpose of murder is to murder a human being. the murderer wants you to second guess your natural response towards abuse. there are no more limits. you have to stop abusers you canāt be the superego that reasons about their bestial impulses.

had Shower Thoughts about this and RashÅmon for some reason. the first line, åćććŖć, "i don't understand," is repeated by the woodcutter near the end, even after the new testimonies. and yet he still adopts the abandoned child

ohh i love the distinction he draws between knowing and understanding here. i donāt know if this is precisely how he means it, but i keep noticing the way the mechanism of understanding can block knowing in a way that enervates or freezes

I met this cat in West Oakland; his name is Elia Kazan and he is 11 years old, he belongs to a machinist who builds replica pre-WW1 race cars and he named him that because, and I quote: it would be funny to name a cat after a rat
