I remember walking down the hallway after Game 1 of last year’s Eastern Conference Finals. The Haliburton shot had completely zapped the fan base of its energy. With one unlikely bounce. That tonight went the way it did almost seems storybook for the Knicks.

That Landry Shamet bounce was the basketball gods saying sorry to Knicks fans for the Haliburton shot.

That was the exact way a comeback should happen from an entertainment perspective. Both teams had two timeouts left. No stoppages for reviews. Just play after play, the ball kept rolling.

The Knicks trailed 93-71 with 7:52 to go in the game. They now trail 94-89 with 3:30 to go — a run they've spurred with Jalen Brunson going off as he attacks James Harden over and over.

Josh Hart gonna be an incredibly interesting player in this series. Tremendously important as a defender, cutter and creator. Cavs expectedly come out guarding him with Allen. Hart misses both his 3s. Knicks spacing opens up once the bench comes in. Driving lanes follow.

Karl-Anthony Towns is dishing like never before. Jalen Brunson is a screening fiend. And Mikal Bridges is everywhere. An all-Knicks edition of the notebook:

Everyone talks about Ausar Thompson’s athleticism but his competitiveness and smarts are off the charts, too. That rearview swipe of Mitchell to extend the game only happens if you are keen on how the other team’s star moves and relentless with your pursuit.

The Knicks had a 176 offensive rating in the first half of this game, with per @cleantheglass. For perspective, that’s the equivalent of Reggie Miller going to the line for two free throws.

The Knicks have played two closeout games this postseason. In both of them, they have had the end-of-bench guys in by the third quarter.

Bridges has been fantastic on both sides for this entire series. And I think today's might be his best defensive performance.

Good teams hold on at the ends of close games. Great teams respond to punches in the mouth by turning should-be tight finishes into blowouts. It's too early in May to tell if the Knicks are in the latter category yet, but they're surely acting the part.
