Today we celebrated African Heritage Month at the Council!

What an incredible afternoon celebrating the opening of the new Takoma Park Library! This project has been a long time coming and it was so fulfilling to come together with so many members of our community and government partners to see the new space and cut the ribbon together.

Had a great time celebrating African Heritage Month in Silver Spring! Montgomery County was the first county in the United States to recognize September as African Heritage Month! Our commitment to celebrating MoCo’s diverse African community is still going strong 17 years on!

It’s been a great first week of school at MCPS! Today, I joined Superintendent Thomas Taylor, Board Member Laura Stewart, Student Member of the Board Anuva Maloo, and Delegate Lorig Charkoudian to visit 6 of our schools, welcoming students, teachers, and staff: - Montgomery Blair High School

Today I helped celebrate the partnership between the Housing Opportunity Commission of Montgomery County and Habitat For Humanity Metro Maryland. Habitat For Humanity is converting 20 properties purchased from HOC into affordable homeownership opportunities for Montgomery County families.

It was a great day to celebrate the alumni of Lincoln High School — Montgomery County’s sole Black high school. Seeing the alumni and their families come together to celebrate together was wonderful and we also recognized the need to invest in the renovation of the Lincoln High School building.

What a wonderful evening at National Night Out yesterday! From Kensington, to Lyttonsville, to Downtown Silver Spring, and to Takoma Park — it’s always great to be in community and with community.

As part of their North American trip to learn about different strategies for affordable housing development, Hawaiian state and local representatives visited Montgomery County! The delegation came to hear more about the Housing Opportunities Commission and its Housing Production Fund.
