heard a guy say "you have to access it through the portal" and i was momentarily struck by how sad it is that what he said is so boring :( "accessing it via the portal" should be wonderful. we deserve that at least. it should be cool to access it via the portal and instead it sucks shit

Will no one spare a thought for the poor EdTech executives having a bummer week because they failed to properly secure their platform, exposing the sensitive data of millions of children to the dark web 😢

inspired by a post I saw on here and have since lost, I've started reading "AI companies" as "cigarette manufacturers," so something like this becomes "maker of Newports backs bill to fund smoking literacy in schools"

I suspect that the Powers That Be looooove AI because it disengages your brain and softens your thinking. Your free thought, your imagination, gets unplugged and into the socket, the AI node goes. And they control that node. Which means they control your mind. So: they start with kids.

AI education in schools? Absolutely. Kids should know the risks of engaging with AI technology since we know they will be at some point. They should know how it interacts with delusional thinking, suicidal thinking, other kinds of mental illness. They should know it’s designed to be sycophantic.

What’s so brazen is that the subhead literally spells out the travesty. It says that tech industry lobbyists have convinced congress to pay for their products to be made a compulsory part of public education so that when the industry wreaks havoc on American workers it can be blamed on educators.

A lot of people don’t realize that the Big Tech companies are, in many cases, drafting district-wide tech policies, installing friendly administrators, and awarding themselves lucrative contracts.
