Winston Churchill married Clementine Hozier in St Margaret's Church, Westminster Abbey, #onthisday in 1908, and the entry in the parish register in pictured here. St Margaret's has centuries-long links with the House of Commons, with parliamentary weddings and memorial services often held here.

'Thy scarlet robes' - Henry VI, Part I (I, 3) This cope - made from crimson velvet and embroidered with flowers and stars - is the oldest in our collection. It was most recently worn at the coronation of HM The King, and you can see it on permanent display in our museum. #ShakespeareSunday

Elizabeth I - the daughter of Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn - was born #onthisday in 1533 This is the magnificent tomb in the Abbey’s Lady Chapel where Elizabeth lies buried with her half-sister, Mary I. Her marble effigy wears a crown and gilded collar and holds an orb and sceptre.

'This City now doth, like a garment, wear The beauty of the morning' - Composed upon Westminster Bridge, September 3, 1802 by William Wordsworth Wordsworth is one of the great writers remembered in the Abbey's Poets' Corner.

Today we remember Lucian Tapiedi, who was among 333 Christians who lost their lives in New Guinea during the occupation of the island by Japanese forces in 1942. Tapiedi is one of ten 20th-century martyrs whose statues above the Abbey's Great West Door.

'With all the choicest music of the kingdom' -Henry VIII (IV, 1) Next month we'll be welcoming our choristers back to the Abbey at the start of the new school year. The choristers sing at our daily and special services and are educated at our dedicated Choir School. #ShakespeareSunday #SchoolDays

Henry V died #onthisday in 1422. This is his chantry chapel in the Abbey, built above his tomb and completed in 1450. The chapel is reached by a spiral stone staircase whose steps are worn by the monks who said prayers here daily for the king's soul.

The Coronation Chair is one of the most precious and famous pieces of furniture in the world. Made of oak, it was originally decorated with birds, animals and foliage on a gilt background. #GreatAndSmall

'Every leader to his charge' - Henry IV, Part 1 (V, 1) Another Henry - Henry V - is seen here riding into battle in a carving from the ornate chantry chapel which stands above this tomb in the Abbey.

We're really pleased to have updated our multimedia guide to include a Ukrainian-language tour of the Abbey. The guide, which is already available in 13 languages plus British Sign Language, is included in the price of admission and allows visitors to explore the Abbey at their own pace.

Come to one of the daily choral services at the Abbey and you'll hear our Choir singing from their stalls in the quire - continuing a tradition dating back to the 10th-century monastery. The original medieval quire stalls were replaced in the 18th century and again by the present ones in 1848.

Wherever you're at the Abbey, it's always worth looking up! These gargoyles and grotesques - including carvings of dragons, dogs and lions - can all be found decorating our roof and looking out across the London skyline. #GreatAndSmall

'We will unite the white rose and the red' - Richard III, (V, 5) The marriage of Henry VII and Elizabeth of York united the Houses of Lancaster and York and brought the Wars of the Roses to and end. This is the tomb where they lie buried together at the Abbey. #ShakespeareSunday

Today is the feast of the Blessed Virgin Mary. This detail of the Madonna enthroned, holding a rose, with the Christ Child, is from a 15th-century altarpiece by Florentine artist Bicci di Lorenzo (1375-1452), which is on permanent display in our museum, The Queen's Diamond Jubilee Galleries.

Today we remember St Maximilian Kolbe who died #onthisday in 1941, after offering his own life to save a fellow prisoner at Auschwitz-Birkenau. He is one of ten 20th-century Christian martyrs whose statues stand above the Abbey’s Great West Door.

These tiny illustrations of creatures including a blue bird, doves and a lion are from the Litlyngton Missal, a 14th-century service book made for the Abbey's High Altar. Its 682 pages are beautifully illuminated with coloured inks and gold leaf. #GreatAndSmall

'By fountain clear' - A Midsummer Night's Dream (II, 1) The Cloisters were one of the busiest parts of the medieval Abbey, used by the monks for studying, meditating and exercising. In 2018, this fountain was added to the garth, commemorating the 18th-century landscape architect Capability Brown.

It's not known for sure whether Dick Whittington, the 14th-century Mayor of London, really owned a cat. But his pet has passed into folklore and has been loved by storytellers for centuries. Both Whittington and his cat are depicted in this window in the Abbey's nave. #InternationalCatDay

Henry VII and Elizabeth of York lie buried in the Abbey's spectacular Lady Chapel, which Henry commissioned in 1503. Their tomb is topped with their gilt bronze effigies and surrounded by a fine grille. The grille is decorated with statues to saints including Edward the Confessor, pictured here.

This beautiful tiled pavement can be found in our medieval Chapter House, a part of the Abbey that dates from the 1250s. Among the varied designs on the tiles are lions, stags, foxes, horses and decorative patterns of leaves and flowers. #GreatAndSmall
