Morning Here, a field that has been grazed twice already this year, in late March and late April. The cows will get another quick pass over it in about 12 days. Year on year its wildflowers have been increasing since we started the ‘keep them moving’ grazing regime.

Pileated woodpecker (Dryocopus pileatus), Turtle Island's (North America's) largest woodpecker, visited our yard today. I line my paths / bordered my garden beds in my rewilded / young climated adapted native food forest with old logs that have had many woodpecker visits over the years. #Rewild

A lynx recorded within our SESCARNIVORE project, in a Natura 2000 site approximately 10 km from the nearest settlement, in a cultural landscape. Its presence is a reminder of how important natural quietness, low noise levels, and minimal human disturbance are for wildlife in such habitats.

Integrating trees in pastures is an under-utilized and under-appreciated way to boost livestock health and happiness, and also creates wildlife habitat and boosts biodiversity. Best are #silvopasture / #woodpasture systems.

I found a paper on "agricultural rewilding" - The terminology certainly gets wordy. So many different types of "rewilding" and "farming", is it agricultural rewilding, rewilding lite, wild farming, agroecology, regenerative farming, or permaculture? (These are all similar, with slight nuances.)

Imo, rewilding is missing out on profound opportunity by reclaiming farmland for "nature". These 2 land uses can be hybridized for both "nature" and "farming" purposes. Take a look at the tactics and goals of rewilding: "The first step is usually to introduce herds of large grazers,..."

The diversity of North American Blancan-age Camelids is off the charts: llamas, goat-camels, giraffe-llamas, giant camels. They must have been filling Pliocene niches before the Bovids arrived during the glacials. Pencil size chart; not all may have been contemporaneous #paleoart

This gem of a pond is on a remnant of common land near York. I last sampled here 20 years ago, so reassured to find the scarce and declining diving beetle Agabus labiatus still present. The surrounding fen and wet grassland supports a rich invertebrate assemblage including several other rarities.
