Difficulty is a core game mechanic, because it makes the player: - Ponder challenges and strategies - Learn game mechanics deeper - Act with real consequence - Yearn for mastery Give players the right to choose their own difficulty.

Fun game mechanic: Running Button The button we need runs away from the cursor. And the button we don't need tries to catch up with the cursor. I've rarely seen a mechanic like this in games. Developers can use it as a funny gimmick or as a core gameplay mechanic.

A message to all gemdevs: "Please make a Mac version of your game." I've seen a lot of Itch_io pages with comments like: "Where's the Mac version? Why isn't it working for me?" About 15% of players are Mac users. Please, Don't let them down because of such a small oversight.

Wise gamedev told me there are only 3 questions that drive all video game success: - Why player starts playing my game - Why player continue playing - Why player stop playing The more a gamedev invest in those questions, the more successful video game will become.

The Masterpiece You Missed - 'Mudlarks' A game where you play as a scavenger desperately battling anomalies to find a missing friend. Harder than Dark Souls. Lovelier than Expedition 33. Smarter than Death Stranding. And all this on a budget the size of a bag of chips.

The Walking Dead = Visual Novel This game is a visual novel because of: - Choice-based gameplay - Branching plot depending on your choices - Emphasis on developing relationships with characters But also it has: - Video instead of images - Quick-time events - Time-limited decision-making

SOUTH PARK > Expedition 33 A thread in which I'll scientifically prove why "South Park:The Stick of Truth" is 6.7x better than Expedition 33 in: - Combat - Audio - Story - Visuals - Leveling branches - Character charisma (Everything said below is just a joke from crazy author)

I don't understand Expedition 33. A record number of awards should indicate exceptional quality. But Expedition 33 is simply a good game, not legendary. It loses to many other titles that haven't won such awards I want to understand. Is Expedition 33 a legendary masterpiece and why?

After reviewing over 200.000 games on itch_io, I learned how important a game's preview image is. - Preview = Clicks - Clicks = Downloads - Downloads = Future Success Simple test: Paste your game's image into the preview frame and ask random people which 3 games they'd choose.

Nobody treats indie developers more warmly than gamers Appreciate gamers advice, even if it seems unrealistic or hard to implement. Value their desire to help and get involved People who say "Gamedevs are lazy" or "Gamers have aggressive, unreasonable demands" are toxic Gamers+Gamedevs=❤️
