The family of a Colombian man believed to have been killed in a US strike in the Caribbean has filed what’s believed to be the first complaint against such attacks with the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR).

Klein's argument here seems to be radical acceptance of the status quo, without meaningful vision for change. Is the real question to be asking here: what is the society we live in? Or is it what is the society we want to live in? For our children to grow up in?

To say that immigrants don't have the right to speak is also to say that the rest of us don't have the right to hear what they have to say. Trump is curtailing the First Amendment rights of citizens, not just of immigrants. (Not that crushing immigrants' rights isn't a terrible thing in itself!)

Democratic Leaders Stand Real Still In Hopes No One Notices Them

The institutional Democratic Party is guided by an almost pathological level of conflict avoidance in almost every direction. “What can we do to make the least number of people mad?” is just a bankrupt way to operate.

Universities have to recognize that these actions pose an existential threat. They need to make clear, through action, that they won’t sit on the sidelines as the Trump administration terrorizes students and faculty alike and runs roughshod over individual rights and the rule of law.

Arresting and threatening to deport students because of their participation in political protest is the kind of action one ordinarily associates with the world’s most repressive regimes. It’s genuinely shocking that this appears to be what’s going on right here. 1/

None of us can be sure what will “work.” You try multiple things and find your way in. Read some histories of the Civil Rights Movement by those who participated. They were never “sure” of what would work. Some campaigns fizzled out. But persistence, creativity, determination, and focus were key.
