Today, we remember the workers at Westray mine who lost their lives in one of the worst workplace disasters in our province's history.

Over 3000 Canadians are diagnosed with ovarian cancer every year, and we have yet to develop an effective screening or early detection test, but Ovarian Cancer Canada is working hard to change that. Some of their amazing work is coming our of our own province at Dr. Jeanette Boudreau's research lab.

This Mental Health Week is an opportunity to acknowledge everyone who's carrying more than they should have to. All Nova Scotians deserve support that meets them where they are. If you're struggling, you're not alone. We were promised universal mental health care, and we’ll keep fighting for it.

We have heard from families and health care providers over the last few weeks who have serious concerns about the rollout of One Person One Record (OPOR) in our province. There have issues with missing records, medication errors, and delays in care with the system that's been implemented at the IWK.

This weekend I was lucky to be in the Chéticamp area learning more about the people and organizations that make these communities so strong.

On Red Dress Day, we honour the lives of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit People and the families still seeking answers and justice. Their stories must push us to action.

On International Day of the Midwife, we celebrate the care and support midwives provide to families every day. They are trusted, front-line professionals who make a real difference in pregnancy care and women's health.

Asian Heritage Month is a time to celebrate the people, cultures, and traditions that make Nova Scotia stronger. It's an opportunity to learn more about the Asian Nova Scotians who helped build communities while overcoming real challenges and reflect on the progress we've made together.

Today, we recognize the professional and volunteer first responders who show up for Nova Scotians in our hardest moments. Paramedics, police officers, firefighters, search and rescue, and emergency dispatchers are all there when we need them most. Thank you for your dedication, courage and care.

On May Day, I'm thinking about all the workers I've met across Nova Scotia—people working hard to contribute to our province. And too many are finding it harder and harder to keep up.

Last weekend I was lucky enough to attend the Bangladesh Canada Friendship Society for Pohela Boishakh aka Bengali New Year. Thank you to everyone who organized, cooked, performed, and volunteered for this wonderful celebration.

Cairista was denied treatment for the debilitating effects of endometriosis here in Nova Scotia and was forced to spend tens of thousands of dollars and travel to the US to get relief. And she's not the only Nova Scotian woman in this position.

Long-term care workers work hard to care for our families. They make sure our loved ones are cared for with dignity when they're at their most vulnerable.

Volunteers are the heartbeat of community and culture in our province. Thank you to every Nova Scotian who steps up to build something better. When you show up, you create real change across our province.

This weekend marks six years since we lost 22 Nova Scotians in the mass casualty that began in Portapique. We pause to remember the lives taken, to honour who they were, and to stand with the families and communities who continue to carry these losses every day.

Nova Scotians are marking the sixth anniversary of the largest mass casualty in our province’s history. One that was borne out of gender-based violence—a declared epidemic in our province.

Today on Yom HaShoa, Holocaust Remembrance Day, we honour and remember the six million Jewish people murdered in the Holocaust. May their memories be a blessing.

Today, Nova Scotians commemorate the anniversary of the Battle of Vimy Ridge when 3,600 Canadian soldiers lost their lives and thousands more were wounded. We honour their courage and sacrifice, and remember all those who served to defend the freedoms Canadians enjoy today.
