This weekend we mark the loss of 22 Nova Scotians in the mass casualty that began in Portapique. We remember them, honour their memory, and stand with the families and communities who continue to carry these losses every day.

No wonder. Costs are up, health care still isn’t reliable, and housing is out of reach. Five years into this government and all people have to show for it is a pattern of decisions made in secret, including $6.7 billion in spending through background deals.

Groceries are already too expensive. 🙅‍♀️ Grocery chains shouldn't be able to hike the price of the same item based on your personal data, block new grocery stores from opening, or stop smaller stores from selling fresh food. But right now they can.

"We make no apologies." This is what Finance Minister John Lohr said to Nova Scotians instead of answering serious questions about this government's cruel budget.

The difference between a government that looks out for people vs one that doesn't is stark. Wab Kinew's NDP budget in Manitoba lowered grocery prices, expanded rent control maintained free birth control, expanded hormone replacement therapy, and made transit free for kids and youth.

The Houston government is rushing to pass legislation that locks in their cruel budget cuts before they’ve even finished hearing feedback from Nova Scotians. All while the Premier is in Texas — unwilling to stand behind this budget with his vote.

Students are speaking up about the Houston government's inexplicable cut to the student bus pass program. These passes let students get to school, activities, and jobs while developing independence. They kept cars off the road and meant parents didn't have to balance drop-off with getting to work.

Nova Scotians work hard, but finding a place they can afford to live is just getting harder. We're seeing more young people pushed out of our province because it just doesn't make sense to stay.

Nova Scotians have lost trust in Tim Houston. The biggest deficit in Nova Scotia's history. $6.7 billion in out-of-budget spending with no real results for families. Cruel cuts in this budget no minister can explain. Entire sectors gutted with no serious analysis of impact to jobs or GDP.

Congratulations to Nova Scotians Tamara Deverell and Shane Vieau on their Oscar win this weekend! Their success is more proof that world-class talent grows right here in Nova Scotia.

The deficit didn't happen by accident. Tim Houston came in with a balanced budget, then he mismanaged our finances into a historic deficit. Now, he's punishing Nova Scotians with a string of confusing and cruel cuts. We'll keep fighting these cuts and to hold the Houston government accountable.

Reversing a few of the cruelest cuts isn't praiseworthy. Tim Houston's government didn't do their homework. They spent $6.7 billion dollars out of budget, and now want Nova Scotians to pay for their mismanagement. Even they admit the budget cuts have been chaotic and harmful to people.

Reality check, my guy. Tim Houston's cruel cuts are causing real harm to the people who live here now. While he's decimating entire sectors – economic drivers for our province, he's refusing to deal with the ever-growing cost of living for Nova Scotian families.

🚨 Spoiler alert 🚨 For good. The Houston government is in chaos. They're harming Nova Scotians with this budget, they can't answer questions, and Nova Scotians now know they could be the chopping block next. This premier doesn't have their back.

Brittany says it all. At just 31, she's a full-time caregiver for her sister Katrina. When the Houston government cut disability supports, it caused weeks of stress and uncertainty.

It's not that complicated. This government should be able to explain how they came up with the budget and why they made the cruel choices they did. But they can't. Or they won't. Either option is a betrayal of the public's trust.

Nova Scotians have been hurt by this government. Real people have lost their jobs and weeks of sleep because of these cruel cuts. Real people are having to bear the brunt of this government's financial mismanagement.

The Caregiver Benefit has been stuck at just $13 a day since it was introduced in 2009 by the NDP. Liberal and PC governments froze it while costs kept rising — and under the Houston government, those have skyrocketed.

The Houston government is cutting funding to women's health research when it's clear we need more research into women’s bodies, symptoms, and experiences — not less. That's why we introduced a Bill for a Women's Health Strategy — to make sure people get the care they need.

A new low. Yesterday the Premier tried to trick Nova Scotians and rewrite history. More than a thousand people, from disability advocates to artists to museum workers and more, came out to protest his cruel cuts.

The Houston government inherited a balanced budget and received unprecedented revenue over the last five years — more money to work with than any government in our province’s history. And the premier himself is a chartered accountant.

Among the many cruel cuts this government is proposing is a 20% cut to the Caregivers Benefit. This program is a lifeline for caregivers across Nova Scotia looking after loved ones with severe disabilities or illness at home.

The Houston government is asking Nova Scotians to pay the price for their budget mismanagement while expanding their own ministerial budgets to hire more political and PR staff. Cuts for people. More excuses from the government. Nova Scotians aren't having it.
