Nova Scotians' trust has been broken. Last week, the Houston government made it clear that they didn't do the serious analysis needed to understand the impact of their cruel cuts on Nova Scotia’s post-secondary, arts, culture, or tourism sectors.

Nova Scotians have lost trust in Tim Houston. The biggest deficit in Nova Scotia's history. $6.7 billion in out-of-budget spending with no real results for families. Cruel cuts in this budget no minister can explain. Entire sectors gutted with no serious analysis of impact to jobs or GDP.

The deficit didn't happen by accident. Tim Houston came in with a balanced budget, then he mismanaged our finances into a historic deficit. Now, he's punishing Nova Scotians with a string of confusing and cruel cuts. We'll keep fighting these cuts and to hold the Houston government accountable.

Reversing a few of the cruelest cuts isn't praiseworthy. Tim Houston's government didn't do their homework. They spent $6.7 billion dollars out of budget, and now want Nova Scotians to pay for their mismanagement. Even they admit the budget cuts have been chaotic and harmful to people.

Reality check, my guy. Tim Houston's cruel cuts are causing real harm to the people who live here now. While he's decimating entire sectors – economic drivers for our province, he's refusing to deal with the ever-growing cost of living for Nova Scotian families.

🚨 Spoiler alert 🚨 For good. The Houston government is in chaos. They're harming Nova Scotians with this budget, they can't answer questions, and Nova Scotians now know they could be the chopping block next. This premier doesn't have their back.

Brittany says it all. At just 31, she's a full-time caregiver for her sister Katrina. When the Houston government cut disability supports, it caused weeks of stress and uncertainty.

It's not that complicated. This government should be able to explain how they came up with the budget and why they made the cruel choices they did. But they can't. Or they won't. Either option is a betrayal of the public's trust.

Nova Scotians have been hurt by this government. Real people have lost their jobs and weeks of sleep because of these cruel cuts. Real people are having to bear the brunt of this government's financial mismanagement.

The Caregiver Benefit has been stuck at just $13 a day since it was introduced in 2009 by the NDP. Liberal and PC governments froze it while costs kept rising — and under the Houston government, those have skyrocketed.

The Houston government is cutting funding to women's health research when it's clear we need more research into women’s bodies, symptoms, and experiences — not less. That's why we introduced a Bill for a Women's Health Strategy — to make sure people get the care they need.

Among the many cruel cuts this government is proposing is a 20% cut to the Caregivers Benefit. This program is a lifeline for caregivers across Nova Scotia looking after loved ones with severe disabilities or illness at home.

The Houston government is asking Nova Scotians to pay the price for their budget mismanagement while expanding their own ministerial budgets to hire more political and PR staff. Cuts for people. More excuses from the government. Nova Scotians aren't having it.
