I recently shared some stat that we're spending 30% CPU on finding the distance along a spline, what if we preprocess it into a LUT so we only check 5 line segments? Do I add redirection and reduce the LUT size merging cells, or allow hash collisions so that I have ~15 segments instead of ~5?

I was playing around with DeepSeek-R1. It's fun to have my own local LLM, and it's interesting that it shows you its thought process. However it's hilarious how the thought process and the response mismatch! I asked to make letters uppercase at random in the string "but you are the product".

We spend 5.8ms per frame on updating the kart physics, effects. ~30% of that time is spent on figuring out how far along this 140 segment spline the kart is located. The price of writing naïve code. #gamedev #indiegamedev #ue5

For my previous post I added GIF support to my engine. It was very straightforward thanks to gifenc (github.com/lecram/gifenc). Modified it to compile with C++, easily supplied a palette to the encoder (the game is 256 colors), then some timing later it was working! #indiedev | #gamedev

I love that my laptop runs Linux. It’s underpowered for complex games so light devwork only and not keeping too many tabs open. Keeps me focused. The I3 window manager makes it efficient to navigate. I have no idea how to take a screenshot 😂
