Sometimes I get the feeling I'm spread too thing when it comes to retro tech/gaming. I like all the consoles, all the retro computers, all the neat retro things. My brain usually wants to hyper fixate on a specific platform for a bit, then I hop to another thing, rinse repeat!

I never finished Mass Effect Andromeda when it came out. I just did, and I did enjoy my time with it. It definitely felt padded at times with too many fetch quests, but there is a good game and great stories under the surface. Sad we won't see the story continue, but it was a fun game!

I am so ready for this! I have so many machines needing IDE drive replacements. This panel makes it even more exciting.

I just finished recapping my Commodore 1084s D1 monitor. I'm pleased as punch that I didn't fry it, shock myself, and that the image has vastly improved! There are some more things to fix on it, but this is a major step toward retro goodness.

The desk is a disaster zone, I was eager to test, but I'm extremly excited to have picked up an Amiga 1200 at VCF. Recapped, fixed up and turn key (really, powered on right into a HD install). Looking forward to growing with this system, and it's been on my want list for a very long time!

With the surprise release of Superman on streaming, I finally got around to seeing it last night. I honestly loved it! Uplifting, hopeful, and just a fun movie all through. Leaning into the wider DC universe right of the bat feels like it's not trying to hide the comic origins.

We had an early morning storm today, and the winds seemed to bring an unusual visitor. This tiny brown bat, not bigger than a typical mouse, hung out in our backyard tree all day. When dark finally came it flew off. We definitely don't see bats here during the day, and especially this kind. Neat!

Sometimes, you have to buy a game based on the box art alone. Know nothing about the game, no regrets.

Well, I haven't played Super Mario Land since I was a kid, and a mini vacation seemed like a great time to play it. Short but sweet, I'm mostly glad I am still able to beat it!

A cleanup of the streaming area turned into a full tear out, clean and set up from scratch. Turns out there were a few cables involved.

Happy 40th Amiga! Many memories and endless enjoyment. And it's still going, the Amiga lives on!

I seem to get very random games lately. I did play Theme Park a lot and definitely have wanted a boxed copy. This version seems a bit odd though, not featuring the typical cover, nor EA classics format. Perhaps just a version I wasn't aware of. Still, I'm happy to have it!

Fascinating. This was thrown in a package of a big box game I just bought. It appears to be a Chrysler Plymouth marketing CD-ROM with Lucasarts demos on it. Based on the text, it has an interactive menu to access it all, plus a chance to win a 1997 Plymouth Prowler. Oh boy!

Installing

Trying out some of the ironing methods for fixing up big box games. First off is a standard flatten and iron method. Have to be realistic with results, but I think its a big improvement!

First time I'm actually using the PicoMEM I bought at VCF Midwest last year. Worked on first boot! Really cool that you can create a hard drive image right in the interface. Impressive piece of kit!

This repair is proving challenging. Not saying CRT repair is easy to begin with, but a recap didn't do it. I'm looking at the parts in the v sync section next, which thankfully uses still available parts. Fingers crossed that fixes it!

What is this? A TV for ants?! A coworker just gave me this cool, and very small, portable TV. It does over the air only with no external video source options. It may have to be a conversation shelf piece for now, unless I can hack a video input on it somehow.

Went to pickup an IBM 5153 monitor locally this morning. The IBM PC just isn't the same without an appropriate monitor! Now to spend some time getting it all up and running. Cat included for scale.

Roll credits for Dragon Age Veilguard. It may have deviated some from previous entries, but I truly enjoyed it. Listening to the epilogue was sad, as I'm not sure when/if we will see another one. Thanks for the great stories, Dragon Age.

Got a bundle of Atari ST games, where someone was offloading their entire collection. I saw the listing and had to jump on it. There are some real top-tier games in this i never thought I'd get boxes for. But no denying, having a boxed copy of Monkey Island finally is amazing!

I obviously like big box games, but there is something about the 90s era of Interplay boxes in particular. Good heft, nice material, and all in all great boxes!
