#watched ANGEL HEART (1987) A genre blender of a film that marries detective noir and supernatural horror, ANGEL HEART is stylistically indulgent in all the best ways. Mickey Rourke had astonishing charisma back then. Every other actor in the film feeds off of his energy.

#watched DERANGED (1974) This thinly veiled biopic of notorious Wisconsin murderer and graverobber Ed Gein seems underappreciated for how truly gruesome and distasteful it is. In 4K, I could practically smell the rotting corpses.

#watched THE GOLDEN VOYAGE OF SINBAD (1973) My favorite of Harryhausen's 3 Sinbad films, not for the creatures (7th Voyage is tops there) but for the best cast in the series. John Phillips Law makes a charismatic hero, Tom Baker is a grand villain, and Caroline Munro is Caroline Munro.

#watched THE KILLER (1989) There's nothing to say that hasn't been said about John Woo's massively influential Hong Kong action/crime classic, but on the outside chance you're unfamiliar with it: Imagine the Taxi Driver shootout and Boromir's death scene had a baby.

#watched DELIRIUM (1987) This late-cycle giallo from director Lamberto Bava is entertaining in a trashy way, though the story is sloppy and full of red-herrings and misdirections that make little sense.

#watched AN IDEAL PLACE TO KILL (1971) Two young bohemians break into a wealthy older woman's house to hide from the police, but the woman isn't quite the pushover they expected. Umberto Lenzi essentially remakes his own film, ORGASMO, this time from the POV of the hippies instead of the victim.

#watched ORGASMO (1969) A lonely-and very wealthy-widow falls in with a pair of bohemians who show her a good time ... which turns into a bad time when they imprison her in her villa and take control of her life. The first of 4 collaborations between Umberto Lenzi and Carroll Baker.

#watched A CHINESE GHOST STORY III (1991) A young monk's loyalties are tested when his master sets forth to hunt the demons inhabiting an abandoned temple, including the beautiful (and not so demonic) one who has earned the young monk's affection.

#watched A CHINESE GHOST STORY 2 (1990) This sequel lacks the soulful charm of the first film, and the plot is overly convoluted, but it's still a hugely entertaining fantasy-horror movie with plenty of action, monsters, and amusing characters.

#watched THE HOUSE ON STRAW HILL (1976) A novelist plagued by violent hallucinations becomes obsessed with the attractive writing assistant he just hired. That's when the violence begins to happen for real. It felt like an Udo Kier night. RIP.

Next Saturday, Nov. 29, the Gap Theatre serves up a night of southern fried 70s vengeance on the big screen with Burt Reynolds in WHITE LIGHTNING (1973), William Devane in ROLLING THUNDER (1977) and Jim Mitchum in TRACKDOWN (1976)—all in 35mm!

#watched WRESTLING WOMEN VS THE AZTEC MUMMY (1964) Inept villains and heroes fight over an ancient manuscript, which, naturally, results in lots of wrestling and the resurrection of a mummy that behaves like a vampire. #Mexico #horror

#watched WITHOUT WARNING (1980) An alien who hunts for sport pays a visit to a grungy little space rock called Earth and throws killer frisbees at teens and rednecks. Director Greydon Clark learned from his mentor, Al Adamson, how to snag washed-up actors who needed money. Quite a cast!
